EA has released a brand new trailer to celebrate the launch of the free to play Battlefield game, Battlefiled Play4Free. You can get the game on battlefield.play4free.com — it should offer some great FPS action while we wait for the much anticipated Battlefield 3.
Battlefield Play4Free combines Battlefiled 2 and Battlefield Heroes, with the maps, weapons and vehicles from Battlefield 2, and the engine, mechanics and classes from Battlefield Heroes. The game is free to play, but EA expects to earn revenue through sales of in-game items, much like they did with Battlefield Heroes.
Epic Games has made quite a name for themselves over the years with much of their success being attributed to the critically acclaimed Gears of War series. However, Epic Games has looked to stray away from developing solely for the Xbox 360 going on to release Bulletstorm – their take on a multi-console FPS that strays away from the standard layout of such games put forth by titles like Call of Duty. Of course, they also have the Unreal Engine but we’ll save that for another story.
Anyways, for those looking to get their hands on Bulletstorm before purchasing it you’re in luck. It’s just been made known that a demo for the game is now available on Steam. of course, you’re not going to be able to play this demo on your Xbox 360 or anything of the store as it’s quite obviously Windows only. Luckily, the Xbox 360 demo has been available for some time.
Don’t want to get your hands dirty on the game but still want to know what it’s all about? Check out our Bulletstorm review, here.
On the Xbox 360 one of the hardest hitting exclusives is none other than Epic Games’ Gears of War. Currently, the franchise is on its second iteration as Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360 but its been known for quite some time that Gears of War 3 is quickly approaching. In fact, those who picked up Epic’s Bulletstorm will be getting early access to a beta version of the game with pre-orderers and the like getting access some time after.
Seeing how Gears of War 3 is expected to be a huge launch it’s no surprise that Epic Games is expecting a huge turn out for the beta test. In fact, the studio has just come forth today to let us know that they are expecting an astonishing 1 million beta testers to run Gears of War 3 through its paces before it actually hits the market. In turn this means a better experience for gamers actually purchasing the game come September 28th of this year.
As you’re sure to know, other popular games like Modern Warfare 2 did not feature a beta test and not long after hitting the market some malicious users found exploits that essentially brought the game’s online community to its knees. In other words, Gears of War 3 having a beta test that is expected to reach the scale of 1 million users is definitely a very, very good thing.
Crytek’s sci-fi shooter managed to hold on to the top sales spot in the UK market last week, barely beating out Zumba Fitness for the top spot — the no.1 spot separated Crysis and Zumba Fitness by less than 500 copies sold. The top 3 was finished by the latest entry in the LEGO Star Wars series, Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars.
Need for Speed Shift 2 (read our review of Shift 2) debuted on the no. 4 spot, which isn’t that bad. Sci-fi shooter Homefront finished fifth, after debuting at the no. 2 spot last week. The full top 10 best selling UK games for the week ending April 2:

Square Enix is a big name in the RPG sector with their Final Fantasy series largely being a defining franchise in the genre. However, while Square Enix has made a name for themselves in the offline RPG sector they’ve also done what they could to give gamers access to vast online worlds. Starting out with Final Fantasy XI, the studio has gone on to release a second online title dubbed Final Fantasy XIV.
If you’re one of the game’s many players you’ll know that following the natural disasters in Japan, Square Enix had been forced to temporarily shut down the game’s online servers. However, you’re also sure to know that Square Enix has yet to charge anyone for its online play due to the fact that, well, the game just isn’t very good and has received criticism pretty much across the board.
Well, those thinking they’re going to have to pay anytime soon will be happy to hear that Square Enix isn’t planning to start charging folks just yet. In fact, they will allow gamers to play the game for free until they make a solid plan on how they are going to improve the game. When exactly does that mean? We aren’t quite sure but if you like the game just fine you may as well take advantage of the free online play for as long as possible, right?
If you’re a fan of snowboarding video games you’ll undoubtedly know of SSX. Developed by EA, the SSX franchise has been around for quite some time allowing gamers to do over the top tricks never before seen in a snowboarding video game. Well, EA isn’t looking to do away with the franchise as they’ve just recently posted the first dev diary video for the latest addition to the series dubbed SSX: Deadly Descents.
While the video doesn’t show us much of anything in terms of gameplay, it does do a good job showing off what direction the developers are taking the franchise. And by direction, I mean they plan to stay as true to the series as possible with several team members on board who have worked on previous titles.
Anyways, check out the video and let us know what you think. Are you excited for SSX: Deadly Descents? The game is currently expected to be out for the Xbox 360 an PlayStation 3 sometime early next year.
The Angry Birds phenomenon just won’t die out, apparently, as developer Rovio announced that the new version of the game, Angry Birds Rio, which is a tie in to the upcoming movie of the game (yes, a movie) has been downloaded 10 million times in just 10 days. Since the game sells at $1 per download, it would mean it generated $10 million in revenue, of which the developer gets 70% cut (on iPhone and Android).
However, considering that Angry Birds Rio has been offered for free through Amazon’s Droid Marketplace, it’s safe to assume that a considerable chunk of the downloads were free. Still, with the game being on iPhone and Android devices, you can bet that Rovio has pocketed at least a few million from sales of the game. And that’s just for being 10 days on the market.
The Unreal Engine 3 has pretty much become the de facto engine of the current generation PC and console games, powering everything from simple puzzle games, to MMOs, to familiar franchises like Unreal Tournament and Gears of War. Epic has since been working hard on implementing the Unreal Engine 3 and varieties of it on all kinds of devices, from smartphones (Infinity Blade on iOS), to tablets and portable devices.
Epic’s Mark Rein has recently stated that the company wishes to see the Unreal Engine 3 on all platforms — not just PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, but particularly mobile phones and tablets, which are seeing huge growth, particularly in the tablet scene.
Rein said that Epic is focusing quite a lot on Android as well, shipping the Unreal Engine 3 on several devices like the Xperia Play, the Motorola Xoom. Rein said that Android provided a bigger challenge than iPhone, because there are so many phones with different hardware out there, meaning the software has to be tested on each phone.
Rein still didn’t mention anything about the Unreal Engine 3 on the Wii.
There are many different video game genres on the market as you’re sure to know with just about every type of gamer able to find the perfect title for them. In the baseball case, however, MLB The Show has largely been dominating. Luckily, Sony has gotten around to releasing MLB 11 The Show recently letting loose a brand new trailer today showing off the game’s home run derby played using the PlayStation Move.
