Angry Birds is without a doubt the most well known game made initially for a mobile phone to ever hit the market (not counting games like Tetris and the like, of course). Now that Angry Birds has dominated mobile platforms like Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android Rovio is looking towards other platforms that will serve their game well. As you may or may not know, Angry Birds is available for platforms such as Apple’s desktop Mac OS X and even the PlayStation 3 through the PlayStation Network.

In fact, it was just noted today that Angry Birds has already topped the charts of the PSN after being available for a few months. If you haven’t played Angry Birds yet now is a great time to do so as it’s available through the PSN for just $4.

While EA always stated that Battlefield 3 will hit the store shelves this Fall, many speculated that the specific launch date might be in early November, where the game will go head to head with the upcoming Modern Warfare 3. And it’s now been confirmed by EA CEO John Riccitiello, who said, according to BF3blog.com, that Battlefield 3 is “designed to take down that game [Modern Warfare 3].”

Furthermore, Riccitiello stated that EA is looking forward to the heavy weight match between Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, and that both EA and Activision will spend hundreds of millions of dollars to market and promote the games.

It’s still hard to predict what’ll happen this November, as Modern Warfare and Battlefield are the two biggest FPS franchises in the world, going head to head will certainly shake things up a bit. It’s especially harder to predict since we’ve yet to see anything from Modern Warfare 3, even an announcement from Activision.

What’s cooler than a game set in the World War II era? A game set in the World War II era with dinosaurs, obviously. For those of you who share similar views and think gunning down Nazis and dinosaurs sounds like a dream come true, you’re in for a treat. The reason I say this is because a game utilizing Valve’s Source Engine has just hit Steam dubbed Dino D-Day for $19.99.

From the looks of the trailer (included above) a race of human soldiers takes on a race of dinosaurs in an all out death match. Check out the gameplay trailer and let us know you what you think. Additionally, you can also check out the Steam listing for Dino D-Day here.

id Software is one of those game studios that has some very iconic titles on the market today. Rockstar has managed to release some pretty hard hitting games over the years. Namely, their Grand Theft Auto series has largely cemented their name as one of the most iconic game development studios of all time. However, they also have some other great games on the market with a prime example of this being Red Dead Redemption.

Just like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption is an open ended sandbox game where the player must find their way around the world completing various tasks and participating in various activities. However, instead of being set in a major city like many of the more recent Grand Theft Autos, Red Dead Redemption takes place in the old wild west.

If you’re one who loves playing Red Dead Redemption but are wishing that you could squeeze a bit more content out of the game you’re in luck. It was just announced that the content reserved exclusively for those who pre-ordered the game will soon be made available as DLC. Included in this pack are several different things including the Assassin Outfit which increases your rate of Dead Eye regeneration, a Golden Guns Weapon Pack which increased the Fame you’ll be earning and last but not least a War Horse for, well, obvious purposes.

All 3 of these items will be made available for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at some point next week with a $.99 price tag.

Thanks to the App Store Apple’s iOS powering devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has become a premiere gaming platform. Sure many of the titles aren’t as full fledged as something you’d find on a dedicated portable console like the Nintendo 3DS but many big studios have gotten down on the fun releasing many top notch titles.

EA, for example, is one of the biggest game studios getting down on iOS with several of their hardest hitting franchises already available. In fact, just today it was announced that EA will be holding a sale on their iOS games bringing many of the hottest titles to a more palatable price tag. For example, Dead Space, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12, SimCity Deluxe, The Sims 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and The Simpsons Arcade.

All of these titles have been dropped to $5 or less with several of them dropped to just $1.

The Nintendo 3DS has hit the market giving mobile gamers access to a 3D display on the go without the need for those wonky 3D glasses. While some have argued that the autostereoscopic 3D display isn’t fit for a mobile device as it takes a specific angle to achieve the affect the Nintendo 3DS has generally been receiving positive reception across the board. However, we won’t know for sure how the Nintendo 3DS will be remembered until more game developers come forth with their offerings.

One very popular franchise that has appeared on both the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii is Cooking Mama. If you’re not familiar with the series it essentially lets you use the touch and motion controls to simulate cooking racking up points for how similar you can get your dish to the recipe. Currently, not much has been said about a Cooking Mama title for the Nintendo 3DS but it’s just been assumed that the game will eventually be coming.

In fact, it was just noted today that Cooking Mama 4 for the Nintendo 3DS has been listed on GameStop’s website with a release date of October 3rd, 2011. Of course, this is subject to change and may not be even a resemblance of the real release date but at least it does confirm that the franchise will be making an appearance on the Nintendo 3DS.

We’ve had our 3DS for a while now, we’ve spent some time with it, played all the games we could get hold of, and we’ve gotten to know Nintendo’s the 3D capable portable console. Is it a gimmick? Or a portable revolution? It’s somewhere in between. Read on for our full 3DS review.

When Nintendo announced the 3DS, people mainly fell into two camps: the ones saying it was a gimmick and that Nintendo is just following the new hot 3D trend. Others were simply excited that Nintendo was trying something this new: a 3D capable console where one doesn’t need glasses to enjoy the third dimension. Not a bad setup. But does it pay off? What’s it like playing a 3DS? It’s hard to explain, but if you’ve played 3D games before (on a PS3 for instance), you get the idea. Only that on the 3DS, you don’t need glasses. Instead, though, you need to keep your eyes square on the screen, and adjust the depth slider to fit. If you go outside of that narrow boundary, the 3D effect is fizzled and disappears.

Hardware wise, the 3DS has the same iconic design as all DS consoles, and almost the exact size as a DSi, only a bit thicker. Besides the 3D screen, the other new hardware feature you instantly see is the new left control stick, which is now analog. All other buttons are as you expect. Under the hood, the 3DS packs a much more powerful processor and graphics chip, in order not only to deliver a 3D image, but to make some really nice looking games as well. The three inch lower screen has an updated resolution to 320 x 240, while the main, 3D screen is at 800 x 240 pixels, but since it’s in 3D, each eyes needs its own pixel, meaning the effective resolution is at 400 x 240 pixels. It may not sound like a lot, but it’s quite adequate. Other hardware features include 3 cameras, two at the back for 3D pictures, and one in the front for video calls.

Playing 3D games isn’t effortless, as there are a few rules, for one, it’s best if you keep the screen 12 inches or so from your face, and keep your eyes centered on the console. On top of that, you have to keep the 3DS as still as possible when playing, which was sometimes a bit hard to do when we were riding on the bus or in a car with someone. We played a number of games on the device, including Nintendo’s cool new Argumented Reality minigames. Some of the game were amazing while other lacked in both visuals and gameplay, but one thing is certain: the 3D works (albeit with a few caveats), and it clear to see developers taking great opportunities with this device. While some games were barely worth in 3D, others utilized the new feature greatly.

Overall: we can definitely recommend the 3DS for those who want the latest and greatest, because the 3DS is such a piece of hardware. However, at $250, the price is quite steep, costing twice as much as a DS Lite. On top of that, the battery life is anything but impressive, and the 3D effect requires you to keep a certain distance to the screen, and keep it steady. On top of that, you may be at risk of getting a head ache while playing it. We didn’t experience any issues of that kind. Bottom line: the 3DS is a hard sell for $250, but the hardware and 3D effects aren’t just gimmicks, they’re genuine selling points.

The Good:
3D effect is wonderful
Powerful hardware, great looking games (for the most part)
Lots of potential

The Bad:
Pricey at $250
3D effect has limits and requirements
Poor battery life

Overall score: 8/10

Crytek’s Crysis franchise is without a doubt one of the the best looking games to ever hit the streets. In fact, the first entry into the franchise required such high tech hardware that many folks couldn’t even run it. Luckily, Crytek has taken to consoles with their latest title appropriately dubbed Crysis 2 which has given many more gamers access to the beautiful looking game. However, while the game looks quite good on the console there’s no denying the fact that at the highest settings the PC version blows it away. But, many PC gamers have been angry about the fact that the game is essentially a console to PC port rather than the opposite. Another thing that has pissed them off is the fact that the game did not ship with functionality for Direct X 11.

Luckily, it’s just been made known that Crytek will be answering the cries of PC gamers everywhere by releasing a DirectX 11 update for the game. Now, it’s not known exactly when the update will be coming out just yet so you’re going to sit tight until further information is made known.

We love behind the scenes videos on everything, movies, TV shows, and especially, videogames. Developers from Relic here give a few words on their upcoming third person shooter Warhammer 40K Space Marine. Judging from the video, it’s Warhammer 40K meets Gears of War. And that’s one blend of games we’d love to put our money into.

However, don’t expect to be hiding behind cover the whole time, as Relic has said that there won’t be a cover system in the game, instead, it’ll rely more on melee combat that cover based shooting. Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine is scheduled for release this Summer on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
