Minecraft sales top 2.5 million, generate $33 million in revenue

Indie sensation hit Minecraft, made a a small developer in Sweden, has surpassed sales of 2.5 million copies, all sold via the official website. The 2.5 million translate to over $33 million in revenue, making it the top grossing indie game ever made. What’s even more impressive, is that Minecraft is still in beta.
Minecraft is slated for release on November 11 on the PC and Xbox 360. And hopefully, we’ll see a release on Steam as well this. Minecraft was released back in 2009 and was the product of a single developer, Markus “Notch” Persson, who has since formed a studio to work on Minecraft.
