Pokemon has been around since 1996 as a video game franchise, trading card game, movie series, television series and much, much more. While one may think that the game’s popularity would run dry after all these years, the video game titles still interest legions of gamers everywhere. The latest additions to the series are both Pokemon Black and Pokemon White.
Both titles are set to hit store shelves on March 6th of this year and since the release date is so close, Nintendo has come forth today to announce brand new DSi bundles, as you can see above. Both consoles will feature a Pokemon etched on the outside and will retail for $179.99 when the games hit store shelves.
As for the games themselves? They will retail for the usual $34.99 on March 6th, as mentioned before.
Nintendo is running their own Black Friday offers. Well, sorta, as they’ll be introducing two new DSi colors on this Friday, which happens to be Black Friday. The colors are green and orange, and will be released in limited editions, priced at $150, and will include Mario Party DS.
Nintendo’s big cash cow just proved itself once again: Pokemon Black and White for the DS managed to sell 2.6 million copies on launch day, making Halo Reach look like an indie title in comparison. The previous Pokemon title, Gold and Silver, sold 1.4 million copies, and we can’t wait to see what the next one sells. 3.6, anyone?
Nintendo has finally won a victory against the R4 flash card, which makes it possible, and very easy, to play pirated games on the DS. The UK has now banned import and use of the card. Nintendo estimates that over 100,000 cards have been sold in the UK.
Last year, Japan outlawed the card, and Nintendo is pushing several countries to outlaw it as well.
In hopes that it will boost sales, Nintendo has added new colors to the DS line, and more importantly, lowered prices in Japan and the UK. A DS Lite in the UK was lowered from £150 to £130, with a similar price cut in Japan (and is expected in the US as well). As for the colors, well, you can get blue, yellow and green. Not exactly the most vivid colors in the world, but we’ll take it wiht the price cut.
Thanks to the ESRB we now know that a cartoonified version of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger will be hitting the DSiWare service hopefully very soon. According to the ESRB, this game will feature gameplay such as ‘last-man standing, hitting opponents to collect soba noodles, and capture-the-flag.
The best part of all? The game will be called Blayzbloo: Super Melee Brawlers Battle Royale. Why? Who the hell knows.
It’s been quite some time since we saw the unveiling of the DSiXL but Nintendo has yet to give us a North American release date and/or price for the device. If you weren’t aware, the DSiXL is exactly what it sounds like, an extra large Nintendo DSi.
Anyways, Nintendo has finally released word about it’s North American availability and it is set to drop on March 28th of this year for a none-too-bad $189.99.
For those waiting for a DS2, the XL will most likely be Nintendo’s last iteration of the DS as a DS2 with motion sensing is rumored to be in testing.
We previously reported that Square Enix shipped over a million units of Dragon Quest 4 for the DS, in anticipation of the game’s potential sales. Well, luckily for Square, sales trackers in Japan report that Dragon Quest 4 has sold over 1 million units in its first week, outselling the next 5 titles combined.
It seems that there are great expectations for Dragon Quest VI in Japan, and according to publisher Square Enix, they’ve shipped over a million units to Japanese stores. The game was released two days ago, and it wont be until Monday, when the sales numbers are released, that’ll we’ll know how much the game sold.
