STFU — Shut The Fuck Up — is a quick rant complaining about gamers who complain.
Yesterday gamers went haywire over the reveal of the new Batman: Arkham City Game of The Year Edition cover. The outcry was the loudest on social news sites — bandits at Reddit went apeshit over the cover art, calling it “Worst. Box art. Ever“. GameTrailers’ Michael McWhertor called the box art a “tragedy“. Apparently, game covers need to like like a Monet these days.
Have we as gamers become so entitled and snobby that a great game like Arkham City is no longer enough, the cover needs to be perfect as well? Let’s show everyone that we’re civilized and belong in the art world by bitching about the cover of a game, not the game itself. That’ll show the film and literary world we mean business.
Everyone has had the experience of playing their favorite video games, only to have their moms insist they go “outside and play”. As if we needed to experience the outside world. Or to play with others in real life. Or get fresh air. As if it’s more fun to play hide and seek than to get a double headshot one one bullet in Counter-Strike.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is probably the Zelda title in the franchise that stands out the most, with its cartoony graphics, art direction — not to mention all that sailing. Concept artist Ana Mendes created this awesome Zelda Wind Waker artwork that just makes us wish it was a teaser for an upcoming Zelda movie. You can check out more of her work here. If we manage to get our hands on the wallpaper version, we’ll be sure to post it!
By now we know that Xbox Live isn’t the most civilized community on the planet. In fact, the words “Xbox Live” and “civilized” don’t even belong in the same sentence. Although we did just make an exception. The above image shows that even girl gamers — yes, those “cute” girl gamers — appear to be just as bad. Xbox Live trash talk has reaches such proportions that it’s almost unavoidable, especially on highly competitive games. If you have spent a second playing any popular multiplayer shooter on Xbox Live, be it Call of Duty or Halo, you have undoubtedly come across the 12-year old smack talkers throwing big words around. The above comic illustrates perfectly the galactic consequences of Xbox Live trash talk. Other possible things the alien could say: “This map sucks”. Followed by: “Cheater!”. Or the more commonly used, especially for those under 13 years of age: “Fuck you, quickscoping faggot”.
If you have played modern shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield, you’ve most likely found it incredibly coincidental that every time you reload or are about to throw a grenade, that’s exactly the time the enemy pops out. And kills you. Here’s a tip: don’t reload your weapon every time you fire 2 rounds. There’s still 28 left. Or 29, depending on what game you’re playing. Via Reddit.
Artist Drew Northcott has recreated one of our favorite video game characters, Gordon Freeman, in such way that it appears as a classic Vincent Van Gogh painting. The Gordon Freeman edition is based on the famous Van Gogh self portrait from 1889. While it won’t fetch the kind of money real Van Gogh paintings get, it’s still an impressive feat. Especially if you note the G-Man in the background. Always watching…
We’ve seen a few GameCube mods over the years, some good, some bad. This GameCube mod can’t claim to be the prettiest one, but it does fit inside a Tupperware cereal container, complete with a modded controller, a game disc slot, and a screen. It’s a work in progress mod, so it’s bound to get better. For a more polished version, check out this GameCube mod.
