One of the interesting FPS games to be released this year is the multiplayer shooter Brink, developed by Splash Damage and published by Bethesda. It’s not common for publishers to announced that games will be out earlier than they were originally scheduled, usually any announcement of shipping dates includes the word “delayed”, but not with Brink. Bethesda has announced that the game will be arriving one week earlier, and will be released on May 10 in North America and May 13 in Europe.
Of course, it could also have something to do with Rockstar’s heavyweight LA Noire, which is scheduled for release on May 17. If we were Bethesda, we wouldn’t wanna launch on the same day as any Rockstar game, let along a highly anticipated one like LA Noire.
As you’re sure to know the Nintendo 3DS has been out for quite some time with consumers everywhere applauding the device for its glasses-free 3D display and other interesting features. However, while the console itself shipped with a decent line up of games there aren’t any really hard hitting first party titles straight out of Nintendo. Luckily, we’ve known for quite some time that Nintendo would be going to release Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS at some point in the future. If you couldn’t already tell, the game is a 3D remake of the N64 Zelda title with the same name which makes it easy to see why consumers are getting so excited over the title.
Well, it was announced today that Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D will be made available in the US on June 19th.
Tony Hawk is without a doubt the biggest name in skateboarding despite being retired for quite some time. However, when it comes to the video game world the Tony Hawk video games haven’t been doing so hot as of late. They lived harmoniously with one another for quite some time before EA came forth to debut their skate video game. Following that Tony Hawk took his video games in another direction with Tony Hawk: Ride which features a skateboard peripheral but unfortunately failed to take off receiving negative reception across the board.
Well, it seems that Hawk isn’t out of the game just yet as rumors have surfaced today that say a new Tony Hawk game is set to hit store shelves next year. News apparently comes from an interview with Tony Hawk who says that his new game will “probably” be out sometime next year. Unfortunately we don’t have any more information
Hacker George Hotz, who famously cracked the PS3 encryption and jailbroke the console (which resulted in a lot of games hacked and exploited, particularly Modern Warfare 2), has settled with Sony out of court. After Sony found out that Hotz hacked the PS3, they promptly sued him and released their lawyer hounds after him. Sony also got the court to reveal the identities of those people who followed Hotz on Twitter, who commented on his blog and watched his videos. Which gave a lot of bad rep to Sony, enough to attract the attention of hacker group Anonymous, who declared virtual war on Sony.
Now Sony has announced that it and Hotz have settled the deal out of court, with Hotz promising he won’t jailbreak the PS3 again. The deal included other terms of course, but those were not disclosed. Hotz released a statement, staying, “It was never my intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier. I’m happy to have the litigation behind me“.
Angry Birds is without a doubt the most well known game made initially for a mobile phone to ever hit the market (not counting games like Tetris and the like, of course). Now that Angry Birds has dominated mobile platforms like Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android Rovio is looking towards other platforms that will serve their game well. As you may or may not know, Angry Birds is available for platforms such as Apple’s desktop Mac OS X and even the PlayStation 3 through the PlayStation Network.
In fact, it was just noted today that Angry Birds has already topped the charts of the PSN after being available for a few months. If you haven’t played Angry Birds yet now is a great time to do so as it’s available through the PSN for just $4.
While EA always stated that Battlefield 3 will hit the store shelves this Fall, many speculated that the specific launch date might be in early November, where the game will go head to head with the upcoming Modern Warfare 3. And it’s now been confirmed by EA CEO John Riccitiello, who said, according to BF3blog.com, that Battlefield 3 is “designed to take down that game [Modern Warfare 3].”
Furthermore, Riccitiello stated that EA is looking forward to the heavy weight match between Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, and that both EA and Activision will spend hundreds of millions of dollars to market and promote the games.
It’s still hard to predict what’ll happen this November, as Modern Warfare and Battlefield are the two biggest FPS franchises in the world, going head to head will certainly shake things up a bit. It’s especially harder to predict since we’ve yet to see anything from Modern Warfare 3, even an announcement from Activision.
What’s cooler than a game set in the World War II era? A game set in the World War II era with dinosaurs, obviously. For those of you who share similar views and think gunning down Nazis and dinosaurs sounds like a dream come true, you’re in for a treat. The reason I say this is because a game utilizing Valve’s Source Engine has just hit Steam dubbed Dino D-Day for $19.99.
From the looks of the trailer (included above) a race of human soldiers takes on a race of dinosaurs in an all out death match. Check out the gameplay trailer and let us know you what you think. Additionally, you can also check out the Steam listing for Dino D-Day here.
id Software is one of those game studios that has some very iconic titles on the market today. Doom, for example, is considered the franchise that really revolutionized the game market and introduced us to the first person shooter genre set in a 3D world. Well, id Software is looking to revolutionize the market once again with their forthcoming FPS dubbed Rage.
Featuring top notch graphics and an immersive story line that has gamers fending off fiends in an asteroid ravaged world, Rage is set to hit store shelves for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac on September 13th of this year. Seeing how that release date is still a ways off, there is sure to be a ton of promotional material that comes out between now and then giving us further insight into the exciting game.
In fact just today a new trailer has hit the scene courtesy of GameTrailers that shows off some of the weapons gamers will be using to bring forth carnage in Rage. We’ve included the trailer above for you to check out so do so and let us know what you think.
Rockstar has managed to release some pretty hard hitting games over the years. Namely, their Grand Theft Auto series has largely cemented their name as one of the most iconic game development studios of all time. However, they also have some other great games on the market with a prime example of this being Red Dead Redemption.
Just like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption is an open ended sandbox game where the player must find their way around the world completing various tasks and participating in various activities. However, instead of being set in a major city like many of the more recent Grand Theft Autos, Red Dead Redemption takes place in the old wild west.
If you’re one who loves playing Red Dead Redemption but are wishing that you could squeeze a bit more content out of the game you’re in luck. It was just announced that the content reserved exclusively for those who pre-ordered the game will soon be made available as DLC. Included in this pack are several different things including the Assassin Outfit which increases your rate of Dead Eye regeneration, a Golden Guns Weapon Pack which increased the Fame you’ll be earning and last but not least a War Horse for, well, obvious purposes.
All 3 of these items will be made available for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at some point next week with a $.99 price tag.
Thanks to the App Store Apple’s iOS powering devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has become a premiere gaming platform. Sure many of the titles aren’t as full fledged as something you’d find on a dedicated portable console like the Nintendo 3DS but many big studios have gotten down on the fun releasing many top notch titles.
EA, for example, is one of the biggest game studios getting down on iOS with several of their hardest hitting franchises already available. In fact, just today it was announced that EA will be holding a sale on their iOS games bringing many of the hottest titles to a more palatable price tag. For example, Dead Space, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12, SimCity Deluxe, The Sims 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and The Simpsons Arcade.
All of these titles have been dropped to $5 or less with several of them dropped to just $1.
