Batman has been one of the most iconic super heroes of all time and has spawned a massive amount of products. Video games are no different as there are countless Batman video games on the market. More recently we were able to get our Batman fill from Warner Bros. Batman: Arkham Asylum which gave us a kind of 3D stealth beat em’ up game.

Well, building on the success of Arkham Asylum, Warner Bros. will be going on to release Batman: Arkham City for just about every major console including the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and even the Wii U. While we haven’t heard of much in terms of official gameplay for the game Warner Bros. has come forth today to show us the game’s official box art which we’ve included for your viewing pleasure above.

Be sure to let us know what you think of the box art and prepare yourself for the game’s release on the above mentioned consoles come this October.

If you’re a PS3 owner you’ll undoubtedly know that due to a series of attacks from a group of hackers the console’s online service, the PlayStation Network, has been down for quite some time. Luckily, Sony has come forth not too long ago to let us know that the PSN will finally be going back up in the near future but that’s evidently not enough for those who suffered from the downtime.

DC Universe Online players will actually be coming away from the downtime better than before as it was just announced today that SOE will be giving players not only a free month of service but the above pictured mask as well. Apparently, the mask is inspired by Batman which is definitely evident upon viewing said mask and I’m sure a lot of you DC Universe players will be happy to add it to your collection.

Warner Bros has finally announced when we’ll be able to indulge ourselves in more Batman action, and it’s on October 18 that Batman Arkham City will hit the stores. The sequel to the best selling, and critically acclaimed Batman Arkham Asylum has a lot to live up to, and it looks like developer Rock Steady Studios is on rack to deliver, considering what we’ve seen so far of the game.

In Batman Arkham City, you’re moved from the confinements of Arkham Asylum to a whole city section, which is roaming with criminals, the crazy ones, and those who are even worse, gathered from all over Gotham city. And it’s your job to clean up the mess. The game will be out on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

If you were a fan of the first Batman: Arkham Asylum, you’ll be happy to hear that a sequel to the game is currently in the works. What you won’t be happy to hear, however, is what an industry insider has just told CVG.

Apparently, Warner (the guys behind the game) are pushing Arkham Asylum 2′s release date into 2011. The reason for this is apparantly that Warner wants to avoid some heavy hitting titles currently slated for a pre-holiday release.

A bit scared of Halo: Reach, Warner?

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Now here’s an idea developers are sure to adopt — It seems that a user by the name of Chesirec_the_cat recently posted on the Batman: Arkham Asylum PC forums, expressing his concern that he could not use Batman’s glide at a part of the game thus leading to his continous death.

Well, it forum moderator Keir replied letting this user know that Eidos put the glitch into the game intentionally so those who pirated the game could not play through the entire thing. He then went on to say, “It’s not a bug in the game’s code, it’s a bug in your moral code.”

So, EA are you listening? This seems like the best alternative to DRM as it’s been proven no one likes that, right?

It seems that the guys over at Joystiq have managed to take the above screen shot of the Batman: Arkham Asylum main menu that reveals something we previously didn’t know. It seems that the game will be getting a free DLC pack sometime next week, as you can see from said screen shot.

Of course, we have absolutely no details regarding the DLC pack but chances are Rocksteady or Warner Bros. will come clean sometime within the next couple of days.

While movie tie-in games are usually poorly made cash-ins on films released around the time the source material is in theaters developer EA has for some time now been breaking the mold by releasing movie licensed games simply on the virtue that the intellectual properties could make for some excellent games. Most recently they released Lord of the Rings: Conquest and The Godfather II.

It seems this heyday of film-based games might be in its twilight hours as EA has suggested they’re shifting their focus away from licensed properties when planning for their future. “The bloom is really off the rose for licensed games,” said Games boss Frank Gibeau in an interview to the LA times. In the same interview he also confirmed that they’re not planning to release another Godfather game, although later an offical spokesperson came forth saying that nothing has been decided as far as the Godfather license.

This can only come as good news since along with some quality gems EA has mixed in a fair amount of generally terrible garbage. Devoting their resources towards their original properties means we’ll see more and better of those. Though the claim that something in the general mentality about licensed games has changed doesn’t hold much water.

Eidos has released another super villain trailer for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Asylum game. This time, it’s Poison Ivy’s turn to showcase her “uncanny ability to control plants.” Everytime I see one of these trailers for the game, I am reminded how powerful the Unreal Engine 3 can be.

Batman: Arkham Asylum will be hitting stores by the end of the Summer for the PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 consoles.

As our friends over at ThatVideoGameBlog have noticed, the Playstation 3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum has left the Xbox 360 version in its dust in terms of pre-order numbers. Currently, the PS3 version claims an Amazon ranking of #176 while the Xbox 360 version sits at #478. But, why? Do PS3 owners really like Batman that much more than Xbox 360?

Probably not, it’s more likely that the boost in pre-orders has to do with the recent findings of The Joker being exclusive to the PS3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum. I don’t know about you guys, but if I had to choose I’d take the version with The Joker over the version without.

Dreams of Joker fans everywhere have come true, you will in fact be able to play as The Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum if you’re a PS3 owner, that is.

News comes to us from a seemingly released-ahead-of-time advertisement in Sony’s Playstation Home service, featured above. As you can see, you’ll be able to run through challenge maps as The Joker which are exclusive to the Playstation 3. If you don’t know, challenge maps are basically side maps which you can run through over and over in an attempt to get the fastest time.

This is all we have to go by at the moment, no release dates or pricing but, as always, we’ll keep you posted.
