Blizzard is without a doubt one of the most popular game studios on the market. Not only do they have World of Warcraft which has long defined the MMO genre but they also have several other games on the market catering to different niches. One such game is Starcraft II which, quite obviously, is a follow up to the highly popular real time strategy title Starcraft.

Seeing how the game is so popular it’s no surprise that its online component has been infiltrated by cheaters who are looking for an easy way to the top while making the experience a crappy one for everyone else. Luckily, Blizzard has just let us know today that they have banned a whole slew of cheating using from accessing Battle.net which means, in theory, that if you were getting annoyed by cheaters online your experience may be getting a whole lot better quite soon.

As you’re sure to know StarCraft is one of the biggest RTS franchises in video game history. In fact, if you head over seas to South Korea you will find top StarCraft players rich and famous. However, with such massive popularity comes gamers from all walks of life – some a bit less ethical than others. Luckily, Blizzard has been good at keeping their games cheater free.

Today they have announced that another round of bannings has gone out for StarCraft II that has an unannounced number of cheaters felling the burn. Blizzard elaborates on this announcment by saying:

“As always, maintaining a stable, safe, and secure online-gaming experience for legitimate players is a top priority for us, and we’ll be continuing to keep watch on Battle.net and take action as needed.”

So folks remember, cheaters never win, in the end, anyways.

Facebook is everywhere these days, and now it’ll be in StarCraft 2 as well. Blizzard has announced that they’ll be adding Facebook features to the game, with the ability to add your Facebook friends to your Battle.net account. Blizzard plans to expand on the Facebook features in the future for Battle.net.

Diablo III may be well into development but that doesn’t mean people have stopped playing Diablo II. Blizzard has evidently made note of this fact and has gone ahead and released the 1.13c update for Diablo II.

The update provides some improvements and bug fixes for the classic game all of which you can view in the patch notes after the break.

Currently, it’s known that Blizzard plans to use its Battle.net service for their own in-house games like Diablo III and StarCraft 2. However, Blizzard’s Rob Pardo recently went on record as saying they might open it up to third parties.

“It’s something that we’ve definitely always talked about. The problem for us is that it takes a lot of work from our other teams. Every time we have the discussion, we try to figure out what’s going to happen if let’s say a Blizzard game was coming out and a third party game was coming out at the same time. Could we be agnostic in that way? Could we offer the same level of support that we offer our games to third parties? We just never know. It just seems like a big job for us.”

If Blizzard were to do this, Valve’s Steam digital distribution platform would finally be getting a run for its money. I wonder which studios would take sides.
