The epic RPG, or, The Most Time Consuming Game Ever, a.k.a. Skyrim, has been a huge hit so far, selling millions of copies and inspiring gamers to recreate their favorite Skrim moments, objects, weapons, etc. in the real world.
Flickr user Stormbringer, an avid LEGO creator, re-created Skyrim’s village of Dawnstar, which has come under attack by a Frost Dragon. Check out more pics of the creation here.
With so many different FPS titles on the market it’s quite hard for developers to differentiate their offerings in a market largely dominated by the likes of Call of Duty. Splash Damage chose to take a somewhat unique approach with Brink which essentially combines Call of Duty and Mirror’s Edge allowing players to gun down baddies while transversing the environment in a parkour-esque fashion.
Seeing how the critic community is a tough one it’s not really a surprise that Brink has received some mixed reviews. However, Splash Damage is doing what they can to keep gamers happy and make Brink a more pleasant experience. In fact, just today they announced that they have updated the Xbox 360 version of the game to limit its online matchmaking to 8-on-8 matches in an attempt to curb and hopefully eliminate lag.
Not only that, but the developer has also let us know that they are hard at working polishing some DLC to be made available at some point next month. Unfortunately, we don’t know the specifics of what’s going to be included in said DLC pack other than maps it has been said that there will be additional content. What we do know for sure is that Splash Damage will be cutting us all a break offering the DLC pack free of charge. Now all we need is an official release date for this DLC pack and some more details as to what it includes and we’ll be golden.
One of the interesting FPS games to be released this year is the multiplayer shooter Brink, developed by Splash Damage and published by Bethesda. It’s not common for publishers to announced that games will be out earlier than they were originally scheduled, usually any announcement of shipping dates includes the word “delayed”, but not with Brink. Bethesda has announced that the game will be arriving one week earlier, and will be released on May 10 in North America and May 13 in Europe.
Of course, it could also have something to do with Rockstar’s heavyweight LA Noire, which is scheduled for release on May 17. If we were Bethesda, we wouldn’t wanna launch on the same day as any Rockstar game, let along a highly anticipated one like LA Noire.
Of all the different game companies on the market, Bethesda is arguably one of the most creative. Not only has their entire line up of The Elder Scrolls pushed the boundaries of open world games, but their Fallout series has largely done the same. But, Bethesda isn’t all about open ended RPGs as they will also be bringing the first person shooter Prey 2 to market sometime in 2012 – which they have just announced today.
Being developed by Human Head Studios, Prey 2 is set to drop for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be many more details regarding the game other than the fact that Prey 2 will allow gamers to experience an open ended alien world like never before.
Sounds pretty awesome - we’ll keep you posted with further details
Bethesda Softworks has been around for quite some time showing off some of the most innovative RPG titles that fall into their Elder Scrolls series. Now that Oblivion has been on the market for some time, Bethesda is looking towards the future with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
While we’ve already heard quite a bit about the game, the studio has come forth to share an interesting contest. Apparently, if you have a child who is expected to be born on November 11th, 2011 (11/11/11) of this year and decide to name them Dovahkiin, Bethesda’s own Pete Hines will give you a prize. What exactly this prize is we aren’t sure but Bethesda assures us it will never justify the potential ridicule your child will receive if you so choose to name him/her Dovahkiin.
Seeing how someone will inevitably claim this prize, let’s take a moment now and express our deepest sympathy to the child who shall forever be dubbed Dovahkiin.
After much debate and rumoring, Bethesda has confirmed that the upcoming Oblivion sequel, Skyrim, will indeed feature mod tools and mod support. An Bethesda rep stopped by the forums and said:
“We’ve always been impressed with what the community has done with our tools. Like the Elder Scrolls Construction Set for Morrowind and Oblivion, we plan to release [a] Creation Kit so you guys can mod Skyrim.”
Modding was one of the most popular aspects of Oblivion — some of the mods are played to this date. Skyrim will be out on November 11, 2011.
ZeniMax, the parent company of developer Bethesda and id Software, has announced that they’ve gotten a $150 million investment from Providence Equity Partners, who previously invested $300 million into ZeniMax, some of that money was used to acquire id Software last year. This time, they’re looking to make another big acquisition.
Bethesda, the makers of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, have filed for the trademark “Oblivion” to use in “Motion picture film production; entertainment services, namely, providing motion picture theatrical films in the field of fantasy games”, as the trademark suggests. Obviously this could mean they’re working on, or at least, interested in a movie based on their Elder Scrolls IP.
Bethesda has been rumored to be working on a new game for over two years, and the developer/publisher has finally confirmed that the game is in development, and that over 90 people are working on it. It could be the new Elder Scrolls game, or perhaps something entirely new.
Back in April of last year was when we first heard of Fallout: New Vegas — a game originally thought to have been a standalone expansion for the critically acclaimed Fallout 3. Well, here we are almost a year later with a teaser trailer of the game. Unfortunataly, due to the fact that it is a teaser, there is no actual gameplay footage or anything of the sort. However, there is some good nitty gritty sceneray shots along with a shot of what is assumed to be the game’s main character.
Bethesda tells us Fallout: New Vegas will be in stores sometime this fall.
