Thanks to the App Store Apple’s iOS powering devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has become a premiere gaming platform. Sure many of the titles aren’t as full fledged as something you’d find on a dedicated portable console like the Nintendo 3DS but many big studios have gotten down on the fun releasing many top notch titles.

EA, for example, is one of the biggest game studios getting down on iOS with several of their hardest hitting franchises already available. In fact, just today it was announced that EA will be holding a sale on their iOS games bringing many of the hottest titles to a more palatable price tag. For example, Dead Space, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12, SimCity Deluxe, The Sims 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and The Simpsons Arcade.

All of these titles have been dropped to $5 or less with several of them dropped to just $1.

According to director DJ Caruso, who directed Disturbia and Eagle Eye, the Dead Space movie is still in production. The movie was announced back in 2009, but we weren’t given any details nor updates until now. Caruso spoke to the German press about the movie, in an interview you can see above.

According to Caruso, they tried to create a story for a prequel to Dead Space but it didn’t work out, and he mentioned that the Dead Space movie was being produced by the producers of Twilight… yes, that Twilight, the girly vampire movies everyone love to hate. As for Dead Space, we hope they can try and stay true to the game, or at leas,t its chilly and scary atmosphere.

While dedicated portable consoles like the Nintendo DS and PSP do quite well for themselve, many believe that smartphone platforms like Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android will eventually fade these consoles out. Of course, this is probably a stretch for the near future but games like Dead Space on iOS will definitely help things along.

As you’re sure to know Apple recently released the iPad 2 tablet which features a dual-core processor, front/rear facing cameras and a new thin design. However, the only thing us gamers care about is that super fast dual-core processor. EA is keeping on top of things announcing today that an update has been released for the iOS version of Dead Space that will otpimize the game for iPad 2 gamers giving them the treat of increased graphics and more.

Expect additional game developers to follow suit looking to take control of the iPad 2′s beefed up hardware.

We’re big fans of Dead Space 2, which is a great horror game packing a decent storyline, lots of scares and solid gameplay (read our full Dead Space 2 review here). So when it came to reviewing the first Dead Space 2 DLC, called Severed, we jumped on it like bees on honey, and for the most part, our urge for more Dead Space was met.

In Dead Space 2: Severed, you play as Gabe Weller, a security officer on the moon Titan, where you’re stuck in a mine and must fight your way though hordes of Necromorphs in order to reach your wife. We’re glad that the DLC has a simple and strong storyline that drives the action, even if the combat, look and feel resemble Dead Space 2 quite a lot. You’ll see quite a few enemies make their return in Retribution, including the “Twitcher Necromorphs” which were some really nasty suckers back in Dead Space 1. Safe to say (or unsafe to say), they’re just as horrifying in Dead Space 2 Severed.

Gameplay wise, Severed is a lot more tense than regular Dead Space 2, because the combat grips you from the beginning and doesn’t let go, the enemies keep coming and you have to be on your toes the entire time. You won’t be spending too much time exploring and checking out the creepy surroundings, the enemies will take up the majority of your time. Weapon wise, you have a huge arsenal of most of the Dead Space 2 weapons, which will be needed throughout the game.

Overall, Severed delivers what any Dead Space 2 fan who wishes more of the same, as it doesn’t add anything new, but retains all of what made Dead Space 2 awesome. The DLC can be completed in around an hour and a half, but sadly, there’s little replay value. Considering it’s priced at $7, we think that’s about $2 too much, but it’s really not that big of a deal — the DLC is recommended to any Dead Space 2 fan.

The Good:
Same, awesome Dead Space 2 combat
New character and story make things feel fresh
Intense action throughout the game

The Bad:
Doesn’t offer anything new in terms of gameplay and visuals
A bit short (1.5 hours)
A tad overpriced for what it delivers

Overall score: 8/10

Amazon.com has been known to hold various promotions that sees the price tag of highly sought after products get dropped significantly. Video games are no different as they have time and time again appeared in Amazon’s Gold Box deal-of-the-day. In fact, just today Amazon.com has posted their Gold Box deal as Dead Space 2.

While the PS3 version has already sold out, the deal still sees the price of both the Xbox 360 and PC dropped to $39.99 and $39.95. If you’re looking to get fancy, Amazon also offers the Collector’s Edition for $59.95 – a very enticing deal considering the regular game usually retails for this same price. Dead Space was a great success due to its creepy atmosphere and wacky gameplay (like shooting the limbs off your foes). Now the sequel is here, and we’re grateful to say that it continues in the footsteps of the original, and adds a bit more here and there.

Dead Space 2 is set three years after the original, and you still play as Isaac Clarke and your job is to find the item that chugs out all those creepy monsters and destroy it, once and for all. The missions are very linear and are set up in a way that you always know what to do and where to go, and while this is usually a bad thing in games these days, in Dead Space 2, because of its atmosphere, the linear gameplay are ripe for scares and some claustrophobic gameplay — and it takes advantage of it to the full extent. The campaign has more scares, sicker enemies, and better weapons than before, so it’s safe to say that in that respect, it’s better than the previous game. The gameplay remains unchanged from the original game: it’s a third person survival horror game, and it usually switches between navigating dark and haunted corridors, and between surviving a horde of enemies. Both of these offer their own kind of suspense, and are varied throughout the game for maximum tension.

This time around, there’s a multiplayer part but above all, it seems like a run of the mill kind of thing, with the usual modes and not much originality. It’ll satisfy you for a few hours, but is nowhere near the quality and suspense level of the campaign, which is one of the best survival horror campaigns we’ve ever played — right up there in Resident Evil territory. Visually, the game looks great, although not that better than the previous game and it certainly won’t be winning tech awards, but it’s absolutely great at creating an atmosphere, the most important thing in a horror game.

Overall, Dead Space 2 is one of the best survival horror shooters we’ve played, and while it has its flaws (too linear gameplay, boring objectives), it’s a must have for fans of the genre.

The Good:
Creepy atmosphere
Satisfying gameplay
Great and scary campaign

The Bad:
Campaign is too linear
Multiplayer isn’t anything special

Overall score: 9/10

Visceral Games’ Dead Space has been applauded for its top notch game play, stunning visuals and compelling story. However, seeing how the game is still priced around $20, folks who have yet to pick up the game may still be iffy to do so. Luckily, PC gamers will be happy to hear that Dead Space has been dropped to $6.80 on Steam for a limited time.

By a limited time I mean this weekend only so if you’re looking to get down on this deal, you better do so fast.

The original Dead Space has been regarded by many as a great survival horror shooter. Not only that, but Visceral Games went on to release a continuation of the series for the Wii dubbed Dead Space: Extraction which has already received positive reviews.

Due to this generally positive reception, Visceral is going on to release Dead Space 2 as I’m sure you’re all aware of.

While the game won’t be out until January 6th, those of you anxiously awaiting it will be happy to hear that the Dead Space 2 demo is now available for download through Xbox Live. PS3 owners need not be discouraged as we’ve also gotten confirmation that the Dead Space 2 demo will be available through the PSN sometime later today.

Anyone get a chance to try it yet? If so, let us know what you think in the comments.

When you have a great video game franchise, chances are sooner or later someone is going to write a book about it. Dead Space is no different. It was just announced that a book based on the franchise, penned by Brian Evenson, will be released at some point in the near future.

Entitled Dead Space: Martyr, the novel’s plot deals with the following:

“When geophysicist Michael Altman learns of a mysterious signal emitting from deep within the Chicxulub crater, he cannot resist the lure of an undiscovered artefact. He soon learns that being in close proximity to the artefact causes strange occurrences – visions of the dead, vivid dreams, and violent murders. Altman’s experience with the alien artefact leads to this crucial first chapter in the Dead Space saga.”

Anyone going to read this?
