Every popular multiplayer game experiences hacking and cheating to some extent. Some games and developers are good at dealing with hackers and cheaters, while others… not so much. Battlefield 3, being a very popular shooter, has been the target of game hackers and cheaters for a while now, and it’s getting increasingly common to come across such individuals in a match.

A new video recently popped up showing off one of the most popular Battlefield 3 hacks (we won’t advertise or link to it here), and to rub it in, the hacker went after DICE developers — makers of Battlefield 3 — knifing them, and showing of his “skills”. It’s sad that some gamers have to resort to hacks to boost their ego, and it’s perhaps even sadder that this hasn’t been fixed yet.

BF2143
According to a screenshot from one of the new Battlefield 3 maps (Wake Island), developer DICE has put in a little Easter Egg in the form of the number “2143″, obviously referring to a possible Battlefield 2143 — a remake of 2006′s Battlefield 2142. As BF3Blog points out, this won’t be the first time DICE teased an upcoming game: they added the very same type of Easter Egg in Battlefield 2 Armored Fury where they teased Battlefield 2142 a few weeks before its official announcement. Does this mean we’ll see Battlefield 2143 in the future? It sure looks like it, but there is the slight possibility that the developer is just trolling us.

Battlefield 3 developer DICE and publisher EA have announced a video community challenge where players can make an awesome Battlefield 3 video and get a chance to win a trip to DICE headquarters in Sweden. In order to enter the “Only in Battlefield 3″ contest, you have to record and upload an unscripted Battlefield 3 video showing just how great/awesome you are at Battlefield 3. You can check out the full list of rules and regulations for the contest here.

EA recently released their financial results for the 4th quarter of fiscal year 2011, and they revealed just how anticipated Battlefield 3 has already become: the game has been pre-ordered seven times more than the previous Battlefield game, Bad Company 2. EA didn’t reveal just how many pre-orders the game received, but we’re sure it’ll translate into a lot of sales — Bad Company 2 sold 7 million units to date, a number which BF3 will certainly surpass.

EA also revealed that a mobile version of Battlefield 3 is coming, but didn’t revel any details or platforms. Expect BF3 to hit the iPhone at first, much like Bad Company 2 did. Although, we’d love to see a decent shooter on the Nintendo 3DS and/or the upcoming Sony NGP.

Thanks to the emergence of high powered video game consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers have been able to get their graphics fix without beefing up their PC. However, to PC gamers, there are some distinct advantages they have over console gamers that will never be replaced. One of the major advantages here is the inclusion of dedicated servers.

These dedicated servers allow PC gamers to run their own game modes, modify maps and add a new level of fun not even dreamed of by the original developers. If you’ve been paying attention you may remember all of the fuss that was brought to the tablet after the announcement that Activision’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 would not feature dedicated servers in an effort to curb online cheating.

You’ll probably also know that EA recently came forth to announce Battlefield 3 which, according to the game’s executive producer, will hold preference to the PC bringing dedicated servers along for the ride. In the same interview with Game Informer, Bach has said that the studio will not be developing the game for console platforms and then porting it to the PC but instead the other way around. This will ensure PC gamers the best possible experience.

We’ve gotten more info over the weekend on EA and DICE upcoming Battlefield 3, which is looking to be one of the biggest game launches this year: the Limited Edition version of the game will include DLC called “Back to Karkand”, which will include four maps from BF2, remade with the new Frostbite 2.0 engine, and will include some of the BF2 weapons and vehicles as well.

We’re not really sure about this, offering old maps from the get go will surely mean that the new and original maps won’t be played as often, even if we love Strike at Karkand and it’s one of the best maps ever made. The DLC will be available to regular BF3 owners a month after release, and will most likely be priced at $15.

BF3Blog reports that the upcoming and highly anticipated multiplayer shooter Battlefield 3 won’t support the aging Windows XP, because the new engine, Frostbite 2.0, only supports Direct X 10 and 11. As you know, Win XP only support Direct X 9.

We think it’s about time a major game moves away from Win XP, as it’s been the lowest common denominator when making games for a while now, as Windows Vista and Windows 7 are far better, and support feature rich, next gen visuals with Direct X 11.

There’s been numerous Battlefield: Bad Company 2 deals but if you’re just looking for the game on either the PS3 or Xbox 360, you can pick it up now from Amazon.com for just $47. This compares to GameStop which has the game for $59.99.

If you’re a bit iffy about Battlefield: Bad Company 2 something you should know is that it’s not as fast paced as Modern Warfare 2, because I’m sure you’ve played that. But, if you’re bored of Infinity Ward’s golden boy or are just looking for something new, definitely check out Bad Company 2.

Check out the deal here.

While companies like Activision find it necessary to charge $15 for Modern Warfare 2 maps, DICE is taking a bit of a different approach with Bad Company 2. With the recent release of the VIP Map Pack for BC2 free of cost many have wondered if they will ever charge for a pack.

Well, if it’s up to DICE, and not EA, no they will never be charging a pack as they feel it is “crucial” to the game. However, EA assures us that there will be some premium content for the game sometime soon.

In an industry that is so money hungry, I really admire DICE’s decision to keep maps for Bad Company 2 free and to continue giving the community what they want.

battlefield1943

Battlefield 1943 was released to Xbox Live some time ago and it’s been met with an amazing reception. Such good reception, in fact, that it was just announced that the game has sold 1 million copies. Of course, the game retails for just $15 so it’d be unfair to compare it to full priced titles but DICE assures us that Battlefield 1943 is the fastest title to hit 1 million downloads. Good job!
