Oh boy. Here we go again. Universal Studios is apparently in the process of making a new Doom movie. Seeing how the previous one sucked big time, at least we hope they don’t go with the same writers and director as before. The new film is a reboot of the franchise and will not be based on the events of the previous Doom film. Which also means we dunno if The Rock will return. In some ways, we kinda feel he doesn’t. Oh, and as expected, the film will be shot in 3D. Curse you, Hollywood!

Don Ivan Punchatz, the artist behind one of the most recognizable game covers in history, passed away yesterday at the age of 73.
Punchatz created cover art for numerous publications in his life, from books to games, to magazines like National Geographic and Newsweek, but for gamers, he was known for that iconic cover of that iconic game; Doom.

Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, who starred in 2005′s “Doom” movie, and adaptation of the game of the same name, has come out and said that they failed when making the movie, adding:
“Now, there’s been great video game that have been made into movies. Our goal with Doom was not only to appeal to its audience, but maybe break out into the sci-fi or thriller genres. That just didn’t happen for us. It always just comes down to writing and material.”
As they say in Hollywood, when things go wrong you can always blame the writer. Doom was released in 2005 and received mostly negative reviews and raked in some $30 million at the box office.
