brutal legend
Promising to “melt your face off”, developer Double Fine and EA today announced that Brutal Legend will be released on PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 13 in North America, followed by an European release three days later.

"Wooo! Having an official release date is awesome!" said Double Fine president Tim Schafer. "And how cool is it that EA threw down the dough to have the name of an entire month changed to Rocktober?"

The heavy metal-themed game tells the story of roadie Eddie Riggs as he enters the realm “where every Heavy Metal album cover and lyric Eddie knows has come to life.”

In an interview with the founder of Double Fine Productions, Tim Schafer said that the developer is working on Brütal Legend for the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, according to Variety’s The Cut Scene, Electronic Arts is actually planning on having another developer work on the Wii version of the game. This is not an uncommon practice for publishers to undergo; multiplatform games sometimes have a separate developer for the Wii rendition of the game (e.g. Rock Band 2).

Electronic Arts has refused to comment on the rumor.

salute_schafer Going out on a limb, Double Fine programmer Klint Honeychurch has created an adventure game based around company founder Tim Schafer’s hosting gig at the upcoming IGF/GDC Choice Awards.

Dubbed Host Master and the Conquest of Humor, the game is centered around Schafer’s inability to think of jokes for the event. The fully-playable game was made in the style of classic adventure games, featuring a point-and-click interface and floating text.

Schafer’s real event will be held on Wednesday at 6.30pm PST.
