starfox The StarFox franchise has been dormant for a long time, and its creator Dylan Cuthbert just might be the one responsible for it.

In an interview with G4, the very vocal developer – who is also the president of PixelJunk developer Q-Games – stated that he isn’t interested in designing a new StarFox game for the Wii.

He notes that it’d be a big project with “like 100 people on the staff” as one of the main reasons. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility in the future, though he does note that using the Wii controller would be difficult.

“I don’t know…maybe the new one [Motion Plus.] Maybe that’d be more fun to play with. I don’t know. The Wii is a bit more of a toy, I think.”

Cuthbert also has a few choice words for Shigeru Miyamoto, who he points to as the driving force in taking Fox McCloud out of his Arwing and onto the ground. He says that “Miyamoto doesn’t really care about [the core fans]. He wants to make what he wants to make, so he just goes ahead and gets it done.”

The original creator of the Star Fox series and founder of Q-Games, Dylan Cuthbert, said in an interview with G4 that he is not interested in making a Star Fox game for the Wii. Cuthbert was responsible for both the original Star Fox and Star Fox Command.

In response to why there isn’t a Star Fox for the Wii, he said “The problem with that is that it’d be a big project, like 100 people on the staff. It’s just not something we really want to do. I’m sure someone will make it. Maybe they’ll go back to Namco.”

An actual flying Star Fox game is what has been missing from a Nintendo console for far too long. When asked about why Fox has stepped out of the Arwing, Cuthbert attributed it all to Shigeru Miyamoto. “I think that’s all Miyamoto.  Whenever I speak to Miyamoto about Star Fox, he says it’s not meant to be just a flying, sci-fi shooting game. It’s meant to be anything we want to think up. But the core fans don’t want that, but Miyamoto doesn’t really care about that. He wants to make what he wants to make, so he just goes ahead and gets it done.”

In case you have tears in your eyes, don’t cry just yet; the creator hasn’t ruled the Wii out completely. He did say that he could consider developing a title taking advantage of the Motion Plus.
