Lionhead Studios’ Fable franchise is one of the most innovative RPG franchises on the market. Currently on its 3rd iterations, appropriately titled Fable III, the series has been met with positive reception time and time again.
Well, now that Fable III has been on the market for a bit it’s no surprise that some add-ons straight from Lionhead Studios are already available. The latest of such add-ons was just announced today and is dubbed ‘Traitor’s Keep’. Included in this add-on are the new areas Godwin Estate, Clockwork Island and Ravenscar Keep. New adventures are to be found within this area including a “mysterious prisoner”.
Also included in this announcement was the fact that the PC version of Fable III will be out on May 17th while the ‘Traitor’s Keep’ DLC pack will hit the Xbox 360 on March 1st.
All large games have been exploited on the book side, and Fable is no different. Hack writer Peter David, who wrote some of the Halo novels, has penned a Fable book which will be out in October. Furthermore, the book will apparently include a code for an unlockable item in Fable 3, the game.
Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux has come out and said that they expect Fable 3 to sell 5 million units, and generate around $150 million in profits. Why? As Molyneux puts it, “We have to do that because if a franchise doesn’t reach that level it will inevitably wither.” He also confirmed that Fable 3 will be getting DLC later on, just as its predecessor, Fable 2.
Well, it’s finally been confirmed: Fable 3 is coming to the PC as well, in addition to the Xbox 360 release. Lionhead also unveiled the Collector’s Edition of the game, which will retail for $80 and includes a GoldSeal coin (?) Fable 3 playing cars, and a bunch of new in-game content, such as a new quest.
The Fabel 3 box art has been revealed, and it looks like Lionhead’s RPG will have a decent cover. What’s more interesting however, is the little sticker far above, which reads “only for Xbox 360 and Windows”, which of course, makes us wonder whether we’ll see Fable 3 on the PC.
Sure, games in the past have allowed you to mate with non-playable characters and then have babies, but have you ever dreamed of mating with an actual (virtual) person? Well, in Fable 3, you can. It was just announced that players will be able to have sex with each other in the co-op mode and then have babies of their own.
I can see this turning into something really, really weird.
If you’ve been following Fable 3 you’ll know that there was no mention of a PC version of the game. This doesn’t come as a surprise considering there was no PC version of Fable 2. However, there was a PC version of the original Fable which had PC gamers everywhere satisfied.
Luckily, at this year’s GDC, Peter Molyneux took center stage and said that he would love to see the Fable franchise on the PC. He didn’t state, however, that the game would in fact be hitting the PC. So, we’ll just have to assume until an official announcement is made that we won’t be seeing a PC version of Fable 3 dropping anytime soon.
The Fable franchise has grown pretty good since the original title hit store shelves. Peter Molyneux let us know that the original title sold around 3 million copies while Fable 2 sold around 3.5 million. However, in order to secure the franchise’s longevity, Fable 3 is going to have to sell a lot more.
In order to reach the coveted 5 million copies sold that Lionhead is going for, the studio is going to market the game as an action-adventure instead of an RPG as that genre consistently sells better.
