Valve is one of those companies that turn heads with just about every title they put out on the market. If you’ve been paying attention yu’ll know that they have recently released Portal 2 which has received positive reception literally across the board. However, while the game is certainly a highly sought after one its $60 price tag may keep it out of the hands of gamers on a budget. If this sounds like you, you’re in luck.
It was just noted today that Kmart will be offering Portal 2 for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 for just $35 on Sunday, April 30th. Furthermore, it was also noticed that GameStop will be offering the PC version of the game for just $30 while the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will run $39.99.
If you haven’t picked the game up yet definitely keep an eye out for these deals as the game is said to be contender for Game of the Year.
GameStop isn’t the most popular name among gamers (unless you’re very keen on pre-ordering things and signing up for extra services), and it certainly isn’t popular among indie PC developers, as it almost never carries indie games. Last week, GameStop took over Impulse, a PC game download service, and with it, got access to the downloadable scene and a lot of downloadable titles.
Except one: Star Ruler. Developer Blind Mind Studios has removed their indie title Star Ruler from the now GameStop-owned Impulse, in protest over how GameStop treats PC indie developers. The developer issued a statement, saying:
“We are ending sales through Impulse due to GameStop’s long, negative behavior toward the PC platform and independent games. We would never have signed onto distribution through GameStop, and being forced into this situation has only made it worse for us.”
Blind Mind Studios reassured that they’ll continue to deliver updates and patches through Impulse, they just won’t be selling the game through the service any longer.
We knew GameStop was big — it’s the biggest game retailer in the world — but we didn’t know they were this big: for the year 2010, GameStop secured revenues of $9.47 billion. That’s a record for the company, and they reached another record as well: record profits of $408 million. GameStop has over 6,500 locations worldwide, most of them in the US, and employs 17,000 people.
However, not all is good in the world of retail game stores: as digital downloads chew away at the sales of retail stores, this will inevitably mean less and less business to GameStop, as Steam and other services are becoming more and more popular (Steam has 20 million users). Something tells us GameStop might end up like Blockbuster in a few years.

Sony offers several different PS3 SKUs with varying prices and varying storage capacities. Of the current generation, the PS3 with the largest amount of built-in storage is 320GB. If this just isn’t enough for you, you’ll be happy to hear that GameStop has recently listed a a PS3 SuperCharged SKU on their website. Of course, this isn’t an official SKU but instead a refurbished PS3 with a built-in 500GB Western Digital hard drive. Also included in the pack is a special Supercharged console skin, 1 year warranty, a media hub with remote, a charging station for 2 PS3 controllers and an HDMI port.
Sounds pretty awesome and, at $399.99, it isn’t a deal you’ll want to miss. Check out the listing here.

While it’s virtually like giving your stuff away for free, GameStop’s trade-in program allows gamers to make a bit of extra cash off the games and hardware they no longer play or use. However, if you’re going into GameStop with a PlayStation 1 game, don’t expect to get a brick of gold in return. Regardless of this, if you’re looking to get rid of either your Game Boy Advance or GBA games, you may want to do so somewhat quickly.
The reason I say this is because GameStop has just announced that starting as early as April 2nd they will no longer be accepting either Game Boy Advance consoles nor Game Boy Advance games. Then again, like I said above, unless you’re really looking for some pocket change you’re probably better off just holding onto your GBA systems and games.

Every home video game console currently on the market has their own share of respective exclusives that help push the hardware and please loyal games. Just to name a few, on the Nintendo side of things we have hard hitting franchises like Mario and Zelda, Sony has Killzone, LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted while Microsoft has Halo and Gears of War.
Gears of War from Epic Games, in particular, has managed to impress with just about every release and is currently on its second iteration appropriately dubbed Gears of War 2. However, it’s long been known that Epic Games is currently working on a sequel to the game, also appropriately dubbed Gears of War 3. While we’ve seen things such as game3play videos, screen shots and more, we haven’t known when we’ll be able to get down on the game’s beta.
Lucky for us, Epic Games has just come forth to finally give us some insight saying those who purchased the Bulletstorm Epic Edition will be getting early access starting April 8th while those who pre-ordered Gears of War 3 at GameStop will be getting in on April 25th. For all, the beta will conclude on May 15th with the game actually hitting store shelves on September 20th, 2011.
Want some more info on the beta? Check out the official press release after the break.

World’s largest game retailer, GameStop, has announced Holiday 2010 sales of $3.02 billion — a new record for the company. The sales are counted from November to January 1st. During the same time last year, GameStop sold $2.8 billion worth of videogames, consoles and peripherals, among other things.
Despite the recovering economy, the videogame industry has been doing well, with most retailers, online and offline, reporting an increase in sales.

It seems that just about every day several new video game titles get announced but very few of them actually go on to become smash hits. However, for these smash hits popular retailers like GameStop have been known to hold midnight launch events giving hardcore gamers a chance to play before anyone else.
One such title that is massively popular is World of Warcraft amassing millions of monthly subscribers. Well, if you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that the game has a new expansion dubbed Cataclysm coming out soon. Unsurprisingly enough, GameStop has come forth to announce that they will be holding a midnight release for the game where there were will be all sorts of WoW themed festivities.
Seeing how listing all 3,500+ stores would make for the longest post ever, we’re just going to tell you to call your local GameStop to figure out if they are holding such an event.
