Even if Splash Damage’s Brink wasn’t so great to most, it still gathered some kind of following and fandom between select gamers. The game had a sort of charm to it, and as Kotaku pointed out, the art direction was suburb. 

Laurens Corijn, an artist for Splash Damage, recently took the task of using a real-life Nerf gun and modding it to look identical to an assault rifle used in Brink. He also posted a very in-depth guide to the process. Check it out at their official blog and perhaps even attempt it yourself.

Video gaming is quite popular and I’m going to go out on a limb and say you enjoy it quite a bit. While the various categories of video game titles the single genre that’s caused the most impact on society is arguably the FPS genre. We’ve all see FPS Doug, played Counter-Strike and Call of Duty, but how many of us have shot a real gun? Maybe not too many.

Luckily, next time we actually pick up a gun there might be something attached to the side that would make us gamers feel a lot more at home – an electronic ammunition counter. Utilizing a built-in accelerometer this electronic ammo counter was made by Michael Ciuffo and will keep track of how many bullets you have left in the clip.

Here’s a tragic story that could have been prevented — It seems that a 3-year old girl from Tennessee managed to shoot and kill herself with a loaded .380 caliber pistol that she reportedly thought was a Wiimote. The mother says that the gun was left on a table by the girl’s stepfather who had it to deal with intruders. After placing it on the table he carried about his daily routine and forgot about it.

The 3-year old then picked up the gun and shot herself in the stomach fatally.

Now tell me, 3-year old or not, how do you manage to mistake a gun for a Wiimote and then aim it at yourself and pull the trigger? Sounds fishy to me.

Normally when an accessory manufacturer releases a gun peripheral for any console it works through light detection. This new gun peripheral by XCM called Fire is quite different and is only compatible for the PS3. Why? Well, because it uses the same SIXAXIS technology found in the Dual Shock 3 controllers.

In other words, it senses motion like the Wii controller which will definitely make some of you cower in fear. However, based on the above video demonstration its functionality doesn’t look half bad.

No word on when the gun will be ready for consumers but it’s apparently 70% done so far.
