Hitman Profession
We’re already anticipating the 5th installment in the Hitman series, called Hitman: Absolution. However, according to a new trademark filing in Europe, developer IO Interactive is looking to trademark “Hitman: Profession“. This could possibly be the next installment in the series, after Absolution is released next year. However, it could also be a spin-off, possibly a mobile game. Or perhaps it could be something completely different: a book, comic book, etc. Let the speculation begin!

While many gamers may swear by their physical media consuming gaming PCs or console, the streaming game service OnLive has quickly been gaining traction. If you’re not familiar with this service you essentially download a client, find a game you want to play, pay a reduced fee and without any download times whatsoever you’ll be playing.

If you’ve already been enjoying all of the benefits that come with OnLive, you may be interested to hear that the service will soon be getting an update that will see a whole slew of new titles added to its library. In fact, these titles will be made available though their PlayPack plan that is essentially the Netflix of video games where you will pay a small monthly fee and given unlimited access to a library of titles.

Anyways, the new titles that will be coming “in the next few weeks” include Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Hitman, Mini Ninja and Thief. We’ll let you know when the titles go live.

In a perfect world there would be a direct correlation between a movies quality and its financial success. Poorly made films would founder and their directors would be run out of town at the end of pitchforks with torches following closely behind. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your feelings) some films garner enough money out of sheer hope or curiousity. How many of us haven’t ever seen a trailer and thought “this looks so bad I just have to see it”. Such is often the case with video game movies. Fans go to see them to find out how much of a mess they made of our beloved plots and characters while others get dragged along or go looking for a good action/horror flick.

If there was that direct relationship between quality and profitability we’d never have seen a video game movie after Mario Bros., but they manage to get enough between tickets and DVD sales, so they struggle on. Despite the disdain of both critics and gamers alike for the Hitman movie it pulled in over $100 million at the box office, so it seems that Agent 47 will be gearing up for another shot at the silver screen. Fox has hired writer Kyle Ward to pen the screenplay for the movie. If you’ve never heard of him, that’s probably not a huge surprise since so far he’s only got one released film to his name, though he did write the screenplay for the upcoming Kane and Lynch film. This early there aren’t any other details, but regardless of whether or not Olyphant will be reprising his role, I doubt Olga Kurylenko will be back as sequels like this generally dump the previous love interest to introduce a new one, although many would be happier if they dumped the romantic subplot altogether as there never was one in the games.

In an interview with GamingIndians, Eidos Life President Ian Livingstone revealed the news that several new sequels are in development.

Among them, a new Hitman game, which is in development at Danish studio IO Interactive (the original creators and developers of the series), and he also revealed that a new Tomb Raider and Kane & Lynch sequels were in development. Livingstone declined to give details on the new games, but we can expect much more at E3 next month, which is shaping up to be one of the best in years.

Let’s see, we’ve heard of the titles President, Chief Executive Officer, and Founder but Life President? Never. That’s why its so peculiar that Edios recently named Ian Livingstone as the companies new Life President.

GI.biz is reporting that his duties include “overseeing franchises such as Tomb Raider and Hitman, as well as acting as a spokesperson for the Eidos group” and that’s all we have to go by.

Now I wonder, if Square Enix hadn’t taken over Eidos, would this title have come to existence? Hell, it almost seems like a translation error. Oh well, congrats Mr. Livingstone.
