The new instrument for Guitar Hero World Tour apparently isn’t a new instrument at all. Instead, it will be a feature that will let PC users import MIDI tracks into the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

This MIDI sequencer will support rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, keyboards and drum tracks on the PS3, but will be limited to drum tracks on the Xbox 360 due to “hardware issues” which weren’t specified. These features will be released as a week-one patch for the game, which is due out in late October.

It was previously rumored that the new instrument addition to Guitar Hero World Tour would be the keyboard, though that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore, as project director Brian Bright shot it down in a Joystiq interview.

He noted that the keyboard controller “deserves to be introduced with its own game” and that it is something they are talking about.

The new instrument is confirmed to be something that will be used in the upcoming game’s music creation mode.

Guitar Hero World Tour is set for release this fall on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
