After a game is realeased more often times than not members of the community will come forth to create things never even dreamed of by the game’s original developer. One prime example of this is none other than the LittleBigPlanet series which has seen a whole slew of creative levels meant to mimic other things from games to fully functioning computers. Today, a creator by the name of Foggles has come forth to show of their remake of the PopCap’s popular Plants vs Zombies game created entirely with LittleBigPlanet 2′s in-game development tools.
Sony just can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to LittleBigPlanet’s delayed release. First, the gamers are pissed off at them for pushing back the game for two sound clips… and now, the Muslims are pissed off at the company because of its self-censorship. Such a sad situation.
M. Zuhdi Jasser, president of the non-profit American Islamic Forum for Democracy, while talking to Edge, noted that Muslims cannot benefit from freedom of expression and religion and then “turn around ask that anytime their sensibilities are offended that the freedom of others be restricted.”
"To demand that it be withdrawn is predicated on a society which gives theocrats who wish to control speech far more value than the central principle of freedom of expression upon which the very practice and freedom of religion is based," he added.
Jasser notes that while Muslims do not endorse the mixing of Koranic verses with non-educational games, the fact that the music writer is a devout Muslim shows that the “core of this issue is not about offending ‘all Muslims’, but onyl about freedom of expression and the free market.”
