We first heard about the Wireless Xbox 360 Microphone back in the beginning of April when Microsoft unveiled some new Lips DLC.

Well, it seems that Microsoft has again set their sights on the wireless mic as they have said the peripheral, which is compatible with Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Lips, and even Disney Sign It: High School Musical 3: Senior Year, will ship to retail this fall.

The Wireless Microphone is expected to cost $49.99. Hey, you didn’t think a Microsoft developed product would be cheap, did you?

The karaoke themed Lips series didn’t really catch on in North America as it did in Europe but despite this Microsoft has dated an addition to the series, Lips: Number One Hits, for October.

This game will feature the same basic karaoke gameplay featured in the previous Lips title but will feature a new track list that includes:

  • “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay
  • “Disturbia” by Rihanna
  • “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer
  • “More Than Words” by Extreme
  • “Apologize” by Timbaland featuring OneRepublic
  • “Karma Chameleon” by Culture Club
  • “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye
  • “Oh, Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison
  • “Ready, Set, Go!” by Tokio Hotel
  • While there is definitely a market for these games, Joystiq notes the fact that the developers could have just continued to release new downloadable songs instead of an entire new title.

Microsoft’s attempts at a SingStar clone – Lips – may not have sold well, but that won’t stop Rock Band fans from picking up the game’s wireless microphone as it will soon be compatible with the two Rock Band titles.

This fits in with Harmonix’s open-platform philosophy for controllers for its games. Microsoft and MTV Games are reportedly working on the patch that will address the compatibility. No release date was provided.
