Developer Turbine earlier this year took a drastic turn with their MMO Lord Of The Rings Online, turning the paid subscription into a freemium model, where the game is free to play, and are able to buy more content, more levels later on.
This was a risky move, as Turbine would certainly attract more players, but wether they would pay or not was up in the air. Now Turbine has revealed that revenue from the game has trippled since the introduction of the freemium model last September, according to GamaSutra.
Turbine, Inc. has released a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria. It is the first expansion for The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. In addition to the new content, the game’s level cap will be raised to level 60. Moria is set to be released on November 18th.
If you are one of the few who play Lord of the Rings Online, you’ll be glad to know that they have continued working on the game, releasing an expansion pack for it. The first add-on will be available in North America and Europe starting November 18.
Dubbed Mines of Moria, the add-on starts the game’s second volume, offering new enemies and environments across six chapters. To celebrate the release, Turbine is offering several pre-order bonuses, including lower subscription fees – $9.99 for multi-month, $199 for lifetime – among other things.
They are also offering Instant Win codes in specially marked boxes, giving gamers the chance to win from several prizes, including AlienWare packages, $10,000 cash and Logitech gaming keyboards and mice.
