The Nintendo 3DS has hit the market giving mobile gamers access to a 3D display on the go without the need for those wonky 3D glasses. While some have argued that the autostereoscopic 3D display isn’t fit for a mobile device as it takes a specific angle to achieve the affect the Nintendo 3DS has generally been receiving positive reception across the board. However, we won’t know for sure how the Nintendo 3DS will be remembered until more game developers come forth with their offerings.
One very popular franchise that has appeared on both the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii is Cooking Mama. If you’re not familiar with the series it essentially lets you use the touch and motion controls to simulate cooking racking up points for how similar you can get your dish to the recipe. Currently, not much has been said about a Cooking Mama title for the Nintendo 3DS but it’s just been assumed that the game will eventually be coming.
In fact, it was just noted today that Cooking Mama 4 for the Nintendo 3DS has been listed on GameStop’s website with a release date of October 3rd, 2011. Of course, this is subject to change and may not be even a resemblance of the real release date but at least it does confirm that the franchise will be making an appearance on the Nintendo 3DS.
Way back in March of last year we let you know that the creators of Cooking Mama had filed a trademark for Crafting Mama. However, absolutely no details regarding the game (other than what we could assume) had been released. Now, Majesco has come forth and officially announced the game that will have players making candles, kaleidoscopes, quilts, birdhouses and dolls. But wait, why would you play a game about doing that when you can just do it yourself?
Who knows, but the game will be out in fall of this year.
505 Games and Cooking Mama Ltd. have recenetly gone ahead and announced the impending release of Cooking Mama 3, an addition to their popular Cooking Mama series.
Cooking Mama 3 will apparantly feature over 80 recipies, 200 mini games, 4 player multiplayer along with 2 new game modes, ‘What Dish Can You Make’ (which has you and Mama cooking up a new recipie from two existing ones) and ‘Let’s Go Shopping’ (which gives the player a virtual shopping list to buy with a bunch of different mini-game-esque obstacles to encounter).
There’s no official word on when this game will hit store shelves but gamers should be expecting Cooking Mama 3 before the end of this year.
Yeah, it’s pretty hilarious that Activision decided to name their upcoming Wii/Nintendo DS title Science Papa considering there is already an extremely popular Cooking Mama series. Oh well, I guess they technically aren’t infringing on any copyright laws.
Activision says that Science Papa will allow players to join a research team whos job is to work through 30+ experiments (mini-games). David Oxford, an exec over at Activision, had this to say:
“With Science Papa, we’re taking real-world elements of science and giving players the chance to interact with them in safe and creative ways. While the focus here is clearly family fun, the game can stimulate interest and discussion about science.”
Science Papa is apparently set for a July release date.
That’s not a typo. The cooking game — “simulator”, if you will — has sold over 4 million copies in North America, publisher Majesco proudly revealed. The are a total of five Cooking Mama games, and Majesco revealed as well that the Wii version, titled Cooking Mama World Kitchen, would be lowered to $29.99 — making all Cooking Mama games under $30.
Majesco recently released Gardening Mama, and there a plans of releasing a “Crafting Mama” game as well.
Majesco has recently released word that they willbe holding a special Cooking Mama 3 event at this year’s E3.
As you can see from the above invitiation that Joystiq recieved, attendees will be treated to free food, free drinks, and of course Cooking Mama 3 playtime.
There’s really no details on what console this game will be released for or when but we have a hunch you’ll be seeing it on the Nintendo DS.
To entice consumers into trying out Gardening Mama, Majesco has recently released a statement detailing the arrivial of the game’s demo.
According to the press release you’ll be given a plant to take through 10 of the game’s stages which including tilling the soil and applying pesticide. Of course, Mama will be there to guide you if you need some help.
To snag the demo, download it to your Wii and then transfer it over to your DS via Wi-Fi and you’re good to go!
This looks like a push for eco-friendly games but it is obviously not the actual intent. Mama steps out of the kitchen and into the great outdoors to work her magic as Majesco Entertainment Company today announced that Gardening Mama for Nintendo DS has shipped to retail stores nationwide.
Developed by Cooking Mama Limited, the team that created the award-winning Cooking Mama franchise that has sold 3.7 million units domestically, Gardening Mama stars the iconic culinary cutie in the first ever gardening game and the first brand offshoot for the series.
“Gardening is a perfect fit for the Mama brand and we believe the legions of Cooking Mama fans will love Mama’s new green thumb,” said Jesse Sutton, Chief Executive Officer, Majesco. “Gardening Mama includes the same accessible gameplay mechanic as the Cooking Mama series but layers in an entirely new subject matter that all ages and genders will appreciate.”
Gardening Mama transforms the stylus into a universal gardening tool that players will use to plant, nurture and harvest 37 different varieties of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Gamers can manage their garden through the seeding, blooming and maturation phases, and then produce items from the plants they’ve grown.
A robust multiplayer mode lets up to four friends compete to grow the biggest harvest and Treasure Box mode lets players share items they’ve grown with online friends. In addition, players can change Mama’s outfit to their liking while customizing the screen design to their preference.
Gardening Mama for Nintendo DS is rated E for Everyone and is available now for the suggested retail price of $29.99. Gamers anxious to get growing can download a playable demo currently in approximately 10,000 Nintendo kiosks at major retailers nationwide.
First Cooking Mama, then Gardening Mama, now Crafting Mama? If a recent trandmark by the series’ developer Cooking Mama Ltd. is any indication, arts and crafts may be Mama’s next venture.
There’s no confirmation or official press releases stating that there will actually be a game entitled Crafting Mama so no details or anything to go along with the recent trademark findings. Altough, I’m sure you can guess what the gameplay will entail.
Have you ever been playing Majesco’s Cooking Mama and thought to yourself, “Damn I wish I could do this in the garden.” Well, your wishes have been granted!
What you see above is a Japanese commercial for the appropriately named Gardening Mama. In it you can see various aspects of the gameplay which all include, you guessed it, gardening.
Gardening Mama is expected to hit North American shelves for the Nintendo DS on March 31st.
