Not too long ago we let you know that some leaked documents stated that the Xbox 360 would be getting support for USB mass storage at some point this year. At that point it was just a rumor but now it has been confirmed by Microsoft themselves that the console will be getting USB mass storage capabilities come April.
While both flash and normal external hard drive solution swill work, Major Nelson suggests that you use flash drives as it will give “a MUCH better experience”.

Currently, if you want to hook your external hard drive up to your Xbox 360 you have to pass through some loop holes and do some hackery, but that’s no fun. Luckily, Joystiq has just gotten some documents that say USB Mass Storage Device Support on Xbox 360 is coming in a 2010 Xbox 360 system update.
There’s no telling exactly when the update will drop, presumably this Spring, but when it does drop gamers will be able to put things like Xbox Live Arcade games, Games on Demand games and DLC in general on external hard drives.
What I want to know, however, is if I could hook up external hard drive up and watch some TV shows. That would open up a whole new market for Microsoft and the Xbox 360.
