One of the surprising games of 2008, albeit with its flaws, was Mirror’s Edge from Battlefield developer DICE. The game didn’t sell well, but definitely established a solid foundation for a possible franchise, and DICE has always said that they plan on doing a sequel.

However, according to a new report, EA was given a demo of Mirror’s Edge 2, and apparently wasn’t satisfied enough to approve it for production. Instead, they insisted DICE spend their developers and time on Battlefield 3 — which pretty much the entire staff at DICE is working on now.

Previously, EA was considered to have put Mirror’s Edge 2 on hold, but now it appears that what was in development before was canned completely, and that when/if work resumes, it will be from ground up. The future of Mirror’s Edge 2 looks a lot more uncertain now.

After confirming that Battlefield 3 was i development, EA confirmed that another DICE game was in development as well, this time, the sequel of the innovative 3D platformer Mirror’s Edge.

This is despite lackluster sales and rather disappointing reviews of Mirror’s Edge, which still managed to sell over a million copies. Developer DICE on the other hand, expected sales of over 3 million. Expect Mirror’s Edge 2 sometimes in 2010.
