Kinect is without a doubt the most unique motion controller on the market today. While the PS3 and Wii feature physical controllers, the Kinect features nothing of the sort. Instead, Kinect is nothing more than a camera capable of capturing a gamer’s actions in a 3D environment. This means that your entire body is quite literally the controller.
While hackers have been doing all sorts of crazy things with the Kinect, Microsoft is doing what they can to remind us that they are in fact the ones who built the product. In fact, it was just made known that the company has added support for Kinect to the Xbox 360′s native Netflix client. Unfortunately, according to various reports it seems that the implementation is not very good as you’re only capable of browsing through a small list of recommended movies with the Kinect while you still need to use an Xbox 360 controller for everything else.
Pretty lame but better than nothing, I suppose. Have you tried it out?

One of the coolest features of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Kinect is its ability to manipulate a user interface. If you’ve used the system you’re sure to know that you can scroll through menus and make selections all by waving your hands in the air. However, due to the fact that the Kinect is still somewhat new, not all Xbox 360 applications have been able to benefit from it.
Luckily, now that CES is upon us we’re able to learn of new features coming to the Kinect ecosystem in the coming months. According to a recent announcement at this year’s CES, Kinect support will be coming to both Netflix and Hulu Plus sometime this spring. This, quite evidently, means that you’ll be able to scroll through menus and make your selection all with your hands.
Now that’s the future.

Game Streaming service OnLive has announced that they’ll be offering a movie streaming service in 2011, ala Netflix. No details on the new streaming feature have been released, but expect something very similar to Netflix and in the same price range as Netflix as well.
In addtion, OnLive has released an iPhone app, called OnLive Viewer, which lets people manage their OnLive account, watch trailers and so on — but no actual “gaming”.

Home consoles have gotten a lot more features since they were launched, and one of the best ones, Netflix, which is now available on all three consoles, has introduced a new streaming-only option which will cost $8. In addition to that, they’ve raised the price of their DVD options as well (for example, the 1 DVD out at a time has raised from $9 to $10). If you’re not into DVDs, it just got a bit cheaper to stream films and TV shows to your Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3.

SlyVisions reports that Netflix has struck a deal with Hollywood studios Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate to bring their titles to Netflix instant streaming service, which, as we know, can be accessed on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii consoles. The reported deal cost Netflix $1 billion.

While Xbox 360 owners can stream Netflix movies without having a disc, PS3 and Wii owners aren’t as fortunate. However, it’s not a technical thing — it’s merely Netflix’ agreement with Microsoft which prevents them from directly streaming on other consoles, but only for a while. After October, a disc will no longer be required.

Netflix has announced that their streaming service is coming to Canada this fall. Which means all those Canadian’s with their Netflix-ready Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3s have something to look forward to. Watching lots of movies.

Netflix is now officially available on the Wii, after coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 quite a while ago. Netflix is now shipping the discs required to watch movies, alongside a Netflix account. However, unlike with the Xbox 360 and PS3, movies will not be in HD on the Wii.

The Xbox 360 has had it for just about a year now but it seems that Sony and Netflix have finally inked a deal to bring Stream Instantly to the PS3, too.
Netflix says they will launch the service next month and will be free for subscribers to download and begin streaming some of their 17,000+ movies and TV shows instantly. This is good news for the company as well as us as it brings the service to millions of new potential customers.
We’ll keep you posted as the service’s launch date grows closer.

While Netflix is currently exclusive on the Xbox 360, the massive video rental and streaming service wants to be on the PS3 and Wii as well. CEO Reed Hastings told Reuters, “Eventually we want to be on all the game consoles, all the Blu-ray players, all the Internet TVs. So we are working in parallel with all of those efforts. Currently our Xbox deal is exclusive and we haven’t characterized it more than that.”
Netflix currently has a contract with Microsoft prohibiting them on offering the service to competing consoles, but that will most likely change as soon as the contract runs out.
