GTX 680
According to a new report coming from Chiphell, which has a decent track record when it comes to GPU leaks, Nvidia has decided to launch the next generation GPU, GTX 680, earlier than expected. The original launch was slated for March/April, but due to AMD’s slight lead, Nvidia decided to release the card in late-February.

The GTX 680 is said to offer the same performance as AMD’s 7970 card, and will ship with 2 GB of RAM and a clock speed of 780 MHz. The GTX 680 will reportedly be followed by the GTX 700-series later this year.

If you’ve been paying attention you may remember the Big O from Origin PC. This computer combined top notch gaming hardware with a fully functioning Xbox 360. Hardware wise we’re looking at dual Intel Xeon 5680 processors, up to 24GB of RAM, 4 SLI EVGA GTX 580 FTW graphics cards, as much storage as you want and a Blu-ray drive. Of course, like I said, it’s also got a liquid cooled Xbox 360 jammed in there so no matter the game, this beast will be able to handle it.

While the Big O starts at around $8,000, the above mentioned configuration will run you around $16,669. Yes, nearly $20,00 for a gaming PC.

Be sure to stick around as we cover the Big O during CES 2011 next week where it is expected to appear at Creative’s booth.

At CES, Nvidia revealed a bunch of new technologies, and, quite surprisingly, revealed that the next-gen graphics chip, GF100, is in volume production right now.

However, Nvidia didn’t want to give a release date, and considering that the chip has been rumored for a March release, volume production this early is a bit strange — at least, it’s very early.

Nvidia’s upcoming DirectX 11 graphis chip, codenamed “Fermi”, will, according to the company’s Facebook postings, support up to 32xAA — which is some rather serious anti-aliasing (Wikipedia entry on anti-aliasing, in case you’re not familiar with it).

Nvidia also revealed that the new chip, supposedly named GF100, will power the 3D playback of Blu-ray movies. The new chip is expected to be showcased at CES, with a launch in March.

While we wait for Nvidia’s next gen chip, codenamed “Fermi”, the company has followed its old style of re-branding and re-releasing old chips. Well, not quite this time, as the new GT 240 chip is still the same technology, but is built on 40nm process and includes DirectX 10.1 support — at a time where the big deal is DirectX 11.

The new graphics card is mainstream oriented, and should offer decent performance and low power consumption, at a decent price. The chip is outfitted with 96 stream processors clocked at 1360MHz, while the graphics core runs at 550MHz, with idle power load at just 9W. It’ll retail later this week for $99.

Fudzilla claims it has details that point towards Nvidia launching their next generation graphics chip, codenamed Fermi, in January 2010, as opposed to in December, as originally planned. Granted, Nvidia never officially announced a release date, but did mention December as a viable time.

However, DigiTimes — a far more reputable source than Fudzilla — claims that the date is even further into 2010, as Nvidia CEO stated that the card will likely launch in the first fiscal quarter of 2010, which begins in March. If true, this will mean that AMD’s cards, which are already out, will be given a good 6 month head start as the only DX 11 cards available on the market.

Despite falling behind in both sales and technology to arch rival AMD, Nvidia managed to turn a solid $107 million profit in Q3, on revenues of $903.2 million, mostly fueled by the mobile and laptop sector. Compared to last year, that’s an increase of 16%, and from the previous year by 18%. The company said that it expects revenues in Q4 to be up 2% from previous year.

The company is set to release their brand new graphics card and technology later this year, called Fermi.

Along with Capcom uncovering the release date for Resident Evil 5, they have also released a benchmark tool to test your NVIDIA 3D performance and experience first hand on how it looks and feels.

If you’re not fortunate enough to have all the gear to run 3D Vision, you can still download the tool and see if your computer is capable of running the game with no problems; the demo runs fine without all the fancy vision kits.

The download clocks in at 581MB and can be downloaded at NZone.
