Whenever a video game developer treads in sketchy waters it’s inevitable that they are going to cause some controversy. If you’ve seen pretty much any information regarding Duke Nukem Forever you’ll know that the game includes material that is definitely some reason for controversy. In fact, it seems that the game has caused so much controversy that a group of people have seen reason to petition Walmart to not sell the game.
The basis of this petition rests on the fact that Duke Nukem Forever is a “sexist” game pointing mainly towards its ‘Capture the Babe’ gametype. Shelby Knox, a petitioner, had this to say:
“In this disturbing version of ‘capture the flag’ the player is tasked with kidnapping a woman from his enemy’s base, throwing her over his shoulder, and carrying her back to his base to share the spoils.”
While I definitely see where Knox is coming from petitioning Walmart to not sell the game is, in my opinion, a bit far. If Knox doesn’t like the game, I’d say the logical step would be to not buy the game herself.
What do you think? Should Duke Nukem Forever be boycotted?

Activision’s Call of Duty franchise is without a doubt one of the biggest first person shooter franchises on the market with sales numbers to prove it. While the latest iteration, Call of Duty: Black Ops, managed to sell like hot cakes, owners of the PS3 version are none too happy with what they’ve recieved. Not only are there issues with online multiplayer but stuttering frame rates and the like have made for an extremely unpleasent experience.
If you weren’t aware, gamers actually signed a petition for a full refund from Activision due to what they are calling an “inferior game”. While this may seem like a ridiculous claim, it seems to be perfectly legit. In fact, reports have just surfaced today that says over 7,000 gamers have signed the petition leaving some angry comments along the way.
Below is the petition statement:
Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 had the same amount of development time? Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2) was equal on both systems but Black Ops is not? Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2 on PS3) looked better than Black Ops looks now on PS3?
We are requesting a full refund for Call of Duty Black Ops! Or some type of compensation! Most PS3 users would even be grateful for free map pack!
Thank You…
Sincerely,
COD BO PS3 Owners

The last major petition we heard of that was targeted at Valve was the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott. It’s been some time since that petition died down but now another one has emerged, this one a bit less hostile — It’s been over 5 years since Valve released Counter-Strike: Source and we have yet to see a continuation of the series yet, which is what the above mentioned petition focuses on.
This Counter-Strike 2 petition group has already amassed over 25,000 people hoping to get Valve’s attention. Below is their mission statement:
“We want to bolster interest in CS so more people play it, and if we want to regain mainstream attention in the game it needs to be re released as Counterstrike 2. Even if it was just re released with some fixes/patches, additional official maps, a graphical upgrade and a new shiny box …Counterstrike would then survive as a franchise and become popular once again.”
I don’t know about you guys but Counter-Strike was one of the games that really got me hooked on first person shooters. I, for one, fully support the petition.

Earlier today we let you know that a petition for dedicated Modern Warfare 2 servers has garnered over 100,000 signatures. Now, Infinity Ward’s Jason West and Vince Zampella has come forth to comment on the petition and frankly, they aren’t having.
Apparently, instead of catering to the “modders and tuners” they are focusing on the player experience and trying to make it legit as possible. In fact, the two have said that they have received a large amount of complaints regarding cheating in Call of Duty 4 and the inability to find a server without a cheater.
So petitioners, blame it on the cheaters for no dedicated servers.

First Blizzard announced that Starcraft 2 would not feature LAN support, fans were discouraged, then Blizzard defended them not adding LAN support and fans were still discouraged. Finally, those who were discouraged banded together and did the only thing they could do; formed a petition.
There is currently over 25,000 signatures and the guys who put it together really put some effort into it, breaking down and explaining exactly why Blizzard should re-add LAN support.
Will this work? Probably not. Is it the effort that counts? You bet.
