As we’ve said many times in the past Rovio’s Angry Birds has largely been the most successful game made for a smartphone platform of all time. Sure, there have been several hard hitting competitors that will look to take some of the hype away from Angry Birds but as of yet this hasn’t happened. In fact, Angry Birds has continued to grow starting first on Apple’s iOS and expanding to other platforms like Android, the PSP and even desktop platforms like OS X and Windows.

With so many different ways to hit the consumer, sales are sure to be huge, right? You betcha – Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka recently came forth during the SXSW event to tell us that collectively Angry Birds has been download over 100 million times. Not only has its Android version seen 30 million+ downloads but even the PSP version has topped its own respective charts.

While ti seems that Angry Birds is almost getting the Guitar Hero treatment, the near future seems very bright for the franchise and Rovio.

Mobile gaming has been big for quite some time but thanks to the emergence of mobile platforms like Apple’s iOS (powering the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch) and Google’s Android (powering a whole slew of devices from tablets and smartphones to netbooks) tried and true dedicated mobile consoles like the Nintendo DS and PSP have come under fire. However, software developers behind these platforms know that there is still much money to be made with the Nintendo DS and PSP and it seems that Rovio will be one of the first to take advantage of it.

If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that PSP Minis have been around for a bit and are essentially watered down games that go for cheap. Well, Rovio has made it known that they will be bringing their critically acclaimed mobile title ‘Angry Birds‘ to the PSP and PS3 through these PSP Minis. When exactly the game (listed at sometime this week) will hit the PlayStation Network is anyone’s guess at this point but, as always, we’ll keep you posted.

Sony has recently sent a memo to IGN that has effecitvely let the entire internet know that come October 1st the Playstation Store will have 16,000 peices of DLC for use with the brand new PSP Go.

If you’re scratching your head at this number, Sony breaks it down into several catagories: they will have 225 full downloadable games (PSP Minis, full PSP titles, PSN titles etc.) in addition to 2,300 movies and 13,300 TV episodes.

Sure, the number got a bit of a boost from the TV episodes but it is in fact 16,000 pieces of DLC which is all that matters. Now we’ll just have to see if another actually wants the PSP Go, right?
