While the sci-fi multiplayer shooter Section 8 has somewhat impressed PC and Xbox 360 audiences, the PS3 crowd was left out of the fun, and they were promised the game this Spring.

However, it now appears that the game will be released as a download only title on PSN and won’t come in a retail box package.

On a better note, the PS3 game will include three maps which were originally sold as DLC on the other platforms.

The game will be released on the PS3 next month.

No, you aren’t going to get an exclusive Section 8 demo if you pre-order the game from GameStop like Madden NFL 10, but you will be getting some exclusive in-game content.

Taken from the game’s GameStop product listing page is the following description:

Reserve Section 8 and receive GameStop exclusive Captain’s Armor for both Section 8 and their adversaries – the Arm of Orion. If you choose to play as a Captain of Section 8, you’ll proudly wear the Imperial Eagle of the USIF on your shoulder plate; as a Captain of the Arm of Orion, you’ll stand out with the rampant Lion of Orion emblazoned on your helmet and gold trim on your power armor. If only we could wear this to prom, we’d get all the ladies.

Section 8 is currently in development over at TimeGate Studios and will hit shelves for the Xbox 360 and PC on August 28th of this year.

section 8 Shacknews reports that developer TimeGate has settled the lawsuit against Paramount over the use of Section 8.

TimeGate is currently working on a game titled Section 8, and they allege that Paramount infringed on its trademark with an “interactive web series” using the same name.

The suit was dismissed after Paramount agreed not to use the title for its web series. TimeGate had also taken ABC to court over the same infringement a while back.

Section 8 is currently in development for PC and consoles for release later this year.

According to Team Xbox, Kohan developer TimeGate has filed suit against Paramount Digital Entertainment and Paramount Pictures over the title of its upcoming game Section 8.

The studio alleges that Paramount illegally used the game’s name for an “interactive web series.” They also point out that Paramount announced the web series just three days after cancelling a meeting to play the studio’s game.

Similar legal action was taken by the studio last year after ABC had used the name Section 8 for an upcoming sci-fi drama. TimeGate won, with ABC agreeing to change the name.

Section 8 is due out for release on PC and Xbox 360 later this year.
