Dark millenium online cancelled
The big Warhammer 40K MMO, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online, has reportedly been cancelled due to financial issues over at publisher THQ. According to rumors which are flooding out of THQ, the company is in such a dire state that it might announce bankruptcy soon, or offer itself up for sale. More THQ games are reported to be on the chopping block, but it’s unclear which ones. Currently, the publisher is funding projects such as Darksiders 2 and Metro: Last Light.

According to reports coming from game analyst Kevin Dent, THQ is now desperately looking for a buyer, and has not only cancelled all projects it had lined up for 2014, but has returned IP rights it acquired from Disney. With no refund.

It’s still unlikely that THQ will go belly up, considering that the company has a lot of assets and a lot of IP that they can sell, like Red Faction, Saints Row et al. If not sell, the IP can be used to attract potential buyers. Currently the company employs around 1,000 people. All things considered, things aren’t looking good for THQ.

As for Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online, it looks like this expensive project is over. The game has been in development since 2009 at Vigil Games.

We love behind the scenes videos on everything, movies, TV shows, and especially, videogames. Developers from Relic here give a few words on their upcoming third person shooter Warhammer 40K Space Marine. Judging from the video, it’s Warhammer 40K meets Gears of War. And that’s one blend of games we’d love to put our money into.

However, don’t expect to be hiding behind cover the whole time, as Relic has said that there won’t be a cover system in the game, instead, it’ll rely more on melee combat that cover based shooting. Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine is scheduled for release this Summer on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Warhammer 40K has made quite  name for itself starting out first as a board game and then spawning an expansive line up of video games. The latest title to enter the series is Warhammer 40K: Space Marine. This third person action shooter will have gamers controlling, quite obviously, a Space Marine which they will be able to accrue various upgrades for as the game goes on.

Unfortunately we don’t know much about the game and up until now THQ had only said it woul dbe out sometime this summer. Luckily, the company has come forth once again to tell us that Warhammer 40K: Space Marine will be out for the PS3, Xbox 360 & PS3 this August.

Now that we have a solid release window, expect more details to arise quite soon.

The beta for the Dawn of War 2 update patch “There is Only War” will be coming to an end tomorrow. After this date, Relic will no longer be able to “react to and implement feedback” about the game.

However, it turns out that the beta will still be available to download and play until next Sunday. Maybe Relic decided this would be the best route to compensate for the beta’s initial delay.

“There is Only War” includes eight unreleased multiplayer maps, balance changes, bug fixes, and a map editor. The beta patch is available on Steam if you haven’t already tried it out. It requires the standalone Dawn of War 2 to play.

Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 are two of the most popular tabletop games in existence. Both involve large scale battles between armies at the beck and call of the armchair generals. Several video games have been based on these two series, but they have mostly been RTS games, simply a digitized version of the game. There is still so much potential left untapped however within the framework of these universes for many kinds of games.

That’s why THQ and Relic Entertainment are unveiling Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Amongst the various forces and factions of the futuristic universe are the human forces of the Ultramarines, foremost amongst their ranks are the Space Marines, the blue armor clad elite of their army. The action RPG game will have players controlling individual units in a ‘narrative-driven story campaign’ and of course in large scale online battles. Relic Entertainment is bringing years of experience developing games under the Warhammer licenses to the table along with THQ’s own history of success. The title is being developed for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3

What you see above is a recently leaked slide shown by THQ to investors at a meeting held in Februrary. Not only does it show that games like Saints Row 3, and Red Faction 4 actually exist, it gives us a time window for when they might hit the market.

According to the slide, Saints Row 3 is expected sometime in 2011-2012, while Red Faction 4 and a Warhammer 40,000K MMO is expected in 2012-2013.

So then, THQ, can we get some official announcements?
