Electronic Arts and Red Eagle Games have jointly announced an upcoming line of games inspired by Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time book series.
The studio plans on transforming the fantasy franchise into a “line of stand-alone games” for major platforms. A massively multiplayer online role-playing game is also planned.
The titles will be published through the EA Partners label, which enables EA to pair with other third-party developers for publishing and distribution. Some of their past partners include Valve and Harmonix, with id’s title to be released soon.
Red Eagle Entertainment, the company which holds the film, TV and video game rights to the Wheel of Time book series by the late author Robert Jordan has opened a subsidiary, Red Eagle Games, to produce games that tie in to the upcoming Wheel of Time movies.
"We expect to have a game based on every movie, and we expect no less than three movies, though that depends on how well each does," said Red Eagle co-founder Rick Selvage.
The company also plans to develop an MMO set in the fantasy universe. They plan on releasing the games on all major platforms, including consoles, computers, handhelds and wireless devices.
While the company plans on developing the games in-house, they currently do not have any developers, though they are planning to start hiring “in the coming months.”
