We just told you that WoW: WotLK owners would be able to access a free 10-day Cataclysm trial but before you go ahead with that, heed this warning. World of Warcraft is highly addictive and has been known to suck the life out of many players. This isn’t because Blizzard is administering its players any drugs but because the game is so highly entertaining that sitting down for a 1 hour session could see the entire day go out the window.

Don’t believe me? Well, it seems that one player recently did the amazing feat of logging a full 149 hours in one week. For math majors out there, that means he played for literally over 6 days straight. Now that’s dedication!

I wonder if he reached the level cap with that session.

It seems that just about every day several new video game titles get announced but very few of them actually go on to become smash hits. However, for these smash hits popular retailers like GameStop have been known to hold midnight launch events giving hardcore gamers a chance to play before anyone else.

One such title that is massively popular is World of Warcraft amassing millions of monthly subscribers. Well, if you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that the game has a new expansion dubbed Cataclysm coming out soon. Unsurprisingly enough, GameStop has come forth to announce that they will be holding a midnight release for the game where there were will be all sorts of WoW themed festivities.

Seeing how listing all 3,500+ stores would make for the longest post ever, we’re just going to tell you to call your local GameStop to figure out if they are holding such an event.

A short film which examines the affect of World Of Warcraft on people, and also features their avatars walking around the city of Dublin. Quite an interesting concept.

If you’ve played World Of Warcraft, and most gamers have, you’ve probably come across a guild, either as a member or even a leader of one. But to successfully manage a large guild takes a lot of work and planning, and if you’re looking into it, you should check out the new book “The Guild Leader’s Handbook“, by Scott F. Andrews, which packs a lot of tips and strategies for you to use.

The all-conquering MMORPG World of Warcraft was released on this day, five years ago. Since then, the game has sold a whopping 15 million units world wide, and has an active subscriber count of 12 million. Oh, and it generates Blizzard a good $1 billion in revenues a year. Talk about huge numbers…

The Chinese publisher NetEase, which has been running World of Warcraft in the country, has been ordered by the General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP) to stop charging players and to block further signups for the game. GAPP, which recently shut down as many as 200 MMOs, cited “illegal behavior” in WoW, while China’s Ministry of Culture has said the GAPP’s ban was “inappropriate”. Seems like politics will be digging deeper into this issue.

additionalinstancesOver at the World of Warcraft forums, a Blizzard representative gave word that they have successfully changed how the infamous “Additional instances cannot be launched” error works.

The limit for instances per server has been notched up a bit, and the performance instances are being given are also improved.

The reason behind many players participating in Heroic instances is due to the recent 3.2 changes of Heroic dungeons providing Emblems of Conquest. This way, all fresh 80′s can get their Ulduar gear with just some grinding.

No word on when European and Australian servers will be seeing the fix.

After playing the same faction for four years now, it wouldn’t hurt to have a little change. In fact, it might get a little boring to be the same race for so long. Fortunately, Blizzard has now begun their faction transfers. Players can now switch from Alliance to Horde, or Horde to Alliance.

Once changed, you can choose any race to be as long as it matches your character’s class. For example, you can’t create a Draenei Rogue, but you can become a Human Rogue. But, who would want to go Alliance anyways? Traitor.

The faction change costs $30.00 and can be done here.

Looks like the keynote speakers for this year’s Game Developer’s Conference will be none other than Blizzard’s Frank Pearce, Co-Founder & Executive Vice President of Product Development, and J. Allen Brack, Production Director.

The keynote will focus on “The Universe of World of Warcraft.” A bit redundant, don’t you think? One can only assume that it will outline what it takes to maintain and develop for such a large MMORPG. Maybe even a few words on the upcoming expansion, or more improbably, a look at the Warcraft movie.

This year’s GDC will be held at Austin, Texas from September 15th through 18th.

The same guy behind the Spider-Man trilogy has been announced to be the director for the Warcraft movie. Sam Raimi is also responsible for such works as “The Evil Dead” and “Drag Me To Hell.”

Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures will be working together for the film. So, maybe it won’t be so bad if Blizzard has most of the creative control.

“Sam’s passion for ‘Warcraft’ is undeniable and we know that he will create an incredible film worthy of Blizzard’s phenomenal franchise,” said Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull.

“From our first conversation with Sam, we could tell he was the perfect choice,”” added Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment. “Sam knows how to simultaneously satisfy the enthusiasts and the mainstream audience that might be experiencing that content for the first time.”

There’s a lot of Warcraft lore out there, beginning from the debut of the scourge up to the return of the Lich King. And who can forget all of the novels that spawned along the way? Details are scarce right now, as the movie is still in production. Hopefully more information will pop up in this year’s Comic-Con.
