Finally, it appears that Microsoft is coming to their senses and will abolish the MS live point system in favor of a regular $ price tag. According to a report from InsideMobileApps, Microsoft will abolish MS points across all services, including Windows Phone, Zune Marketplace, and Xbox Live.
The change will take affect by the end of 2012, and all prices will be based in real currency, depending on the user’s location/region. Microsoft Points have been a little scammy from the start, where the actual points are lower than the dollar amount paid, e.g. 400 MS points cost $5.
If you’ve played Call of Duty or Modern Warfare on Xbox Live, you’ve no doubt run into obnoxious 12-year olds who think they can “trash talk”, but the kid you’re about to see takes the cake. Someone take this idiot to a doctor. And tell his mom to cancel his Xbox Live subscription.

Despite fierce competition from shooters such as Battlefield 3 and Gears of War, Activision’s Call of Duty titles still top the activity charts on Xbox Live. For the week of November 21 — Thanksgiving week — Modern Warfare 3 took the top spot, followed by another Call of Duty title, Black Ops, on number 2. Not only that, the two-year old Modern Warfare 2 was ranked 6th. This is another testament of just how popular Activision’s franchise is among Xbox 360 players.
Other shooters on the list include Battlefield 3 (4th), Halo Reach (7th), and Gears of War 3 (8th). You can check out the full list at Major Nelson.
Duke Nukem is one of the many classic FPS franchises that eventually went on to define the genre. As you’re sure to know, Duke Nukem Forever recently hit store shelves after being in development for quite some time. While many fans of the franchise were highly anticipating the release unfortunately it didn’t live up to the hype and received generally poor reception across the board. Due to all of this bad press chances are you’re probably going to be pretty hesitant to spend $60 for the game if you haven’t already made up your mind.
Luckily, it was just made known today that a Duke Nukem Forever demo has been made available on not only Steam but Xbox Live as well. This will give a wide array of consumers the ability to check out the game before actually diving head first into the purchase. If you check it out let us know what you think of it and if you disagree with the
As we’ve been telling you the PlayStation Network has had quite the tough time over the past few weeks involving security breeches and massive amounts of downtime. Luckily, it’s back up now so the games can resume. On the other side of things, Xbox 360 users have been enjoying a fully functioning Xbox Live but there is a catch as they’ve had to pay for it while PlayStation Network services can access most of the service’s features for free.
Regardless, the Xbox 360 just isn’t the Xbox 360 without an Xbox Live Gold Subscription so pay the monthly/yearly/interval of choice fee is basically mandatory. Currently, a single month of service costs about $10 per month. However, if you grab the 3 month subscription you’ll only be paying about $24.99 while the 12 month subscription is just $59.99. As you can see, the longer you sign up for the more of a deal you’re going to be cut.
Amazon is making things even sweeter by making the already discounted 12 month subscription card just $39.99 – a $20 price drop from the $59.99 MSRP. And, just to put that into perspective, that means you’ll be paying roughly $3.33 per month for the service. Definitely worth it. Check out the Amazon listing here.
It seems that just about every new game that hits the streets features multiplayer functionality of some sort many times being online multiplayer. This, of course, is no problem as the Xbox 360 and PS3, for example, have Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Both of these services feature their respective pros and cons and allow gamers to play games against one another, download content and much more. However, the major difference is that the PlayStation Network is free and Xbox Live requires a monthly subscription.
Luckily, if you’re looking to get down on Xbox Live but don’t want to pay a dime this weekend will be your calling. The reason I say this is because Microsoft will be giving free access to Xbox Live all weekend starting now and running until Monday. The reason they are doing this is because they are attempting to set a world record with Kinect Sports that is to see the most people simultaneously running a virtual 100m dash.
While it seems to be quite the feat, is there even a previous record? Check out more details regarding the world record attempt here.
The original Dead Space has been regarded by many as a great survival horror shooter. Not only that, but Visceral Games went on to release a continuation of the series for the Wii dubbed Dead Space: Extraction which has already received positive reviews.
Due to this generally positive reception, Visceral is going on to release Dead Space 2 as I’m sure you’re all aware of.
While the game won’t be out until January 6th, those of you anxiously awaiting it will be happy to hear that the Dead Space 2 demo is now available for download through Xbox Live. PS3 owners need not be discouraged as we’ve also gotten confirmation that the Dead Space 2 demo will be available through the PSN sometime later today.
Anyone get a chance to try it yet? If so, let us know what you think in the comments.
